Every draft site said that Sedlock was great value where we picked him.  It wasn't a reach for a "Fast moving" bat like Stewart.

There were positive scouting reports on him early this season.  I don't know what's causing the poor results, but I think it's premature to call him a bust.

As far as draft sites giving an appraisal of specific picks, that's something we should all take with a grain of salt IMO.  Opinions on players aren't identical or in some cases relatively close between different scouts.  Then you have some teams who put a lot of weight on performance/statistics over scouting.  Look at DJ Stewart and Mountcastle are good examples, Stewart was a performance over scouting pick, although they probably thought they could fix his crazy crouch stance (which they have been able to).  I don't think he was a reach in that light.  Mountcastle is a guy who was deemed a reach by the "draft experts", but the O's scouts saw something they liked.  Mountcastle has a long way to go obviously, but I'd say based on current performance, he was a good value where he was drafted.

The chances of drafting a 3+ WAR player (over their initail team control period 5-6 years) with a pick between 21-30 in the first round is just over 20%! For example: Sedlock becoming Tommy Hunter would be a good outcome, 80% of the time a player drafted when Sedlock was drafted will be worse than Tommy Hunter.

It's way too early to write off Sedlock, but even if he doesn't pan out, the 2016 draft is looking pretty good this year:

1.  Sedlock - not performing well.

1s.  Akin - coming on strong at Fredrick

2.   Dietz - struggling at Delmarva

3.    Hays - looks like a fantastic pick, worthy of a mid-first rounder.

4.   Hanifee - off to an excellent start in Aberdeen

5.  Torres - not playing?

6.   Myers - off to an excellent start at Aberdeen.

Torres is in the GCL.

We've been drafting really well the last 4-5 years.  Hart was a miss.  Stewart is kind of meh but will always be a hot streak away from an .800 OPS because he walks.  Sedlock is struggling in his first full season of pro ball.  It's not like these guys were top 10 picks.

I'm hoping Sedlock isn't injured.  Maybe we'll back off him a bit and limit his innings.
