How much would they have to spend to convince you that Mike is really trying?    ;)

Hope this isn't considered trolling.   Pretty sure if you bringing this up again isn't then my reply is ok.

Not sure how making the comment I did in response to your post could be trolling.

A form of trolling is bringing up the same topic 300-400 times, especially when there is no clear cut answer.  Like interloper I have no desire to debate this any further, my only reason for posting the list was in response to the preposterous implication made by the previous poster.

300-400 times?

Hyperbole much?

It's a valid question and if anyone else had asked it you would agree.

Pretty useless article.  Dumbest statement in the article:

"They could have helped improve the overall talent base, but not having that money to trade and help the major league team get by could have made the Orioles a far worse team to watch than they already were in 2019"

Who were these guys that were used with the money to help the major league team?

Until the Orioles actually do something internationally under Elias I think praising them is very pre-mature.  The younger Mesa Brother  and  Gaston could turn out to be decent players.

I agree it’s premature to say how our international program will do.  We’ve seen some encouraging signs, but the proof will be in the pudding, and the pudding will take several years to thicken.

Bottom line, we don’t know how much has been spent to date (2019-20 period) or what the plans are with respect to the remaining slot money available.    I don’t think there’s much data on what other teams have spent, either.    I feel that there was much more discussion in the national media last year (during the Mesa tryouts etc.) of how much money each team had remaining.    I’ve heard nothing about that this offseason (other than the Yankees).

DD signed guys every year.  They had a team in the 2018 DR summer league that did pretty well.  I am not sure what not even spending a 1/3rd of your allotment says about a team.  Some teams like to exceed their allotment by trading for more slots.  The Orioles on the other hand.  Looks like their biggest signing was 450k.  We spent a lot more than that on Hank U by himself.

I mean use up all your slots and sign guys in the top 50.  By the time the Orioles say they are ready to go after top talent there will be an International draft.

Didn't Elias state that the O's wouldn't be trading any slot money from this period?

The DSL is the ultimate record doesn't matter league.  You can have 17 and 23 year olds playing each other.

Everyone (including you) knows that we weren’t well positioned to go get the cream of the crop of the July 2019 class, most of whom were informally committed to tesms before Elias was even hired.    I think he and Perez have made decent progress given where they started.    But as I said, the proof will come later.

As to our 2018 DR team, they averaged like 3 years older than the average team in the league.

Looks like they had 3 17 year olds and 7 18 year olds on the team in 2018.  Seems like most of those guys were still on the team in 2019.

There was some quote to that effect, or at least that the O’s didn’t plan to trade any.    But plans can change based on circumstances.   Let’s say it’s late March, we’ve got a million or two in slots left and nobody we really like in the amateur market, and we have an opportunity to trade some slots for some AAA guy we like.    Are we really going to hold off just because we said before we weren’t planning to trade any slots?    I doubt it.    We’ll see what happens.

I'm not worried about cream.  I'll take a full glass of skim milk at this point.  Just don't stick me with another half full glass of that powered stuff.

I don't think it's an unreasonable expectation that the O's have a top 28 International class this year.

We had many more young players in 2019 than in 2018.    And some of those were DD era signings in the few months before he left.
