Thoughts about David Hess in 2019?

If he didn't learn a sinker under Dan and Buck I don't see it happening under Elias.

It would seem to be a waste of a good arm though. I think a team would do well to try it with just about any good arm that doesn't pan out with the traditional fastball, curveball and change-up.

(vs. BLUE JAYS, 6/12)

Hess was solid for 4 innings, and then came apart in the 5th.

4 Walks in only 4 - Plus Innings Pitched.

Hess was a tad unlucky in that the Blue Jays had 3 Infield Singles while he was on the mound, although only 1 of them played a part in the disastrous 5th inning.

True, but they seem to have done something in regards to John Mean's changeup so you never know.  Game day showed Hess throwing a fair amount of change ups. Not sure how accurate that is. However, his fastball was 90-93 and the changeup was 86-87 which doesn't seem like enough separation.  Could be something he's working on.

IMO, it's about command.  And maybe a little bit about movement, too.  His fastball looks very straight and he can't keep it out of the middle of the zone.  He seems to miss targets regularly.

(vs. D-RAYS, 7/13) )))))) [GAME TWO]

After John Means pitched the worst game of the season for him, Hess came in and immediately ceded 3 runs in the 7th inning.

The following inning, he immediately gave up a single and a double, but managed to get the next 3 batters out (2 Strikeouts and a Groundout) without giving up any more runs.
