Is Hays even playing yet?  He sprained his thumb a month ago and I haven't heard a thing about him since.

No, Hays isnt playing. Haven't heard anything about his rehab either.  This injury is a real setback after last year.

Hays is out of his splint and has started a hitting progression.

Why are they calling him "Stevie" Wilkerson all of the sudden?

Did he put out a presser a la Mike Stanton/Kendry Morales/BJ Upton?

Not exactly, but he did request the change, saying he’d always been called Stevie.    His BB-ref page has been changed that way too.

I know this is mostly about Mullins but it did mention Lucas.Any word on Karns? Read yesterday after his one outing that he was going to see a specialist again

From The Sun:

Hyde said right-hander Nate Karns (forearm soreness) would play catch this week, but that his planned minor league rehab outings may be pushed back after the soreness reoccurred during his outing for Norfolk Saturday.

So this is only Wilkerson's fifth  game ever in left. So much for defense being number  one with Hyde

Correct, and he's ony played four games in left, where he starts tonight.

First off, duh we've already seen this.

Secondly, he probably isn't in control of his 25.  If Smith isn't game ready who does he have to go with?

Kind of agree, it doesn't really matter but it does.  As I said, I'm not sure what they want to see what Wilkerson has (even though I like Wilkerson) but maybe the new regime sees something that they like him?

Maybe there are more moves to follow.  Who knows.

I haven't read the rest of this thread so maybe it's been covered, but I think there definitely will have to be more moves.

This 3 man bench can't last much longer, especially with Smith gimpy.   We can barely cover the positions on the field.

We have 3 days left of this 6-games-in-5-days and 20-games-in-20-days stretch, then an off day Thursday, and we have off days 3 weeks in a row, 6 of 8, 10 of 13, and 13 of 17 weeks.    I think we are just trying to get our pitching staff through this Chicago series and then we will go back to a 4 man bench.   Because I don't think we can last long in a stretch where our only OFs are Rickard, Smith [gimpy], Mancini [not really an OF], and Wilkerson [not really an OF].

Mullins: He's in a strange kind of hitting "slump". He's still making contact (although very weak) while matching last year's K rate with the O's @ 20% -- his minor league K rate was 15%. As to his defense, his below average arm cancels out much of his above average range.

Wilkerson: (Allowing for my positive bias) has better than average speed and arm strength; fairly even switch-hitting splits; 3 options remaining

Lucas: 1 option remaining

So now Rickard is starting CF, Smith in LF, and Mancini firm in RF, with Wilkerson as Backup OF?

That’s shaky on O and D both. I really like Joey but I think his weaknesses are going to be exposed.

Yep, and Smith can't go tonight because of the quad.   So Wilkerson is in LF, and I guess the backup OF is Hanser?

I think the fan's defense in the bleachers has improved 10 fold.

I don't know, I was pretty upset with a fan who let Rosario rob us of a home run Saturday, didn't even attempt to touch the guy's glove.   He could have done it without even reaching the blatantness of Jeffrey Maier.

The fans hould have been DFA'd.

I don't think he did a presser... but he did say he wished to be called Stevie from now on.

Maybe Mullins has an iron deficiency? ?‍♂️
