Doran Turchin 2019

Delmarva has been red-hot to start this season and Doran Turchin has been a big reason why. Most attention has gone to the young pitching and Adam Hall, but Turchin is the centerfielder in the middle of the line up doing some damage.

Luke's take from last year's draft

Quote

Turchin was on the radar as a draft prospect back in 2015 out of HS, but being a cold weather guy with a strong commitment to Illinois, he wasn't drafted. Turchin showed a plus arm (94 mph OF velocity) and plus or better speed (6.63s 60yard) out of HS, but has been playing LF for Illinois. He offers good batspeed and above average raw power that he gets to at times in game. The power appears to hold up with wood bats as well as shown by a .281/.435/.524 line in the Northwoods League last summer. There is some swing and miss in his game but the bat has a chance to profile if he can handle CF or provide strong defense in the corners. LATE ROUND SLEEPER PICK.

Through 15 games this season, Turchin has a .400 OBP and a .945 OPS with 4 doubles, 2, triples, and 2 homers. I've seen Luke commenting on him on various threads and thought it would be good for him to have his own thread in case he turns into a big surprise of the summer.

Good to see. He strikes out way too much though, hopefully he can figure that out.

Yeah, that’s his major hurdle to being a legit prospect and the reason why he was available late in the draft. But you can dream on the toolsy types, Turchin has MLB tools if he can make enough contact.
