Miami has five players with a positive ERA+/OPS+:

SP Caleb Smith, RP Tayron Guerrero, C Jorge Alfaro, 1B Neil Walker, and...

Mister Austin Brice.

The Orioles have 3 more wins than the Marlins, which is flippin' incredible.

It's really not. The Marlins are even worse. They have young pitching (unlike the Os), but the only one who has really lived up to the hype is Smith. Their offense is absolutely abysmal. Curtis Granderson is arguably their best offensive player. Read that sentence again just to let it fully sink in.

They have a team total of -1.4 WAR. They are paying Chen $20 million this year to  pitch to a 11 run ERA.

Kevin is not having the best of seasons for Atlanta, so far, but I know. SSS.

As was pointed out last year when he was doing well for Atlanta and people attributed that to better coaching etc., Gausman historically is a slow starter and pitches well in August and September.    Looks like that pattern is holding in Atlanta so far.

I think it takes awhile for his shoulder to loosen up.

I think last season slow starting took all new meaning for Kevin.

Well, not really.   He had a bad first game, then pitched well for about 6-7 weeks.    Then he was pretty mediocre from mid-May up to the trade deadline.

Yankees bring up ex-Orioles

Quote

9:34pm: The Yankees will select the contract of left-hander Nestor Cortes Jr. from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, reports Conor Foley of the Scranton Tribune-Times (via Twitter). The team has yet to formally announce the move, though Foley suggests that Cortes and his teammates were already informed of the move. A corresponding 40-man roster move will need to be made.

It’ll be the Yankees debut for Cortes, 24, though it won’t be his Major League debut. The Orioles selected him in the 2017 Rule 5 Draft and carried him on the big league roster for the season’s first couple of weeks before returning him to the Yankees. He tossed 4 2/3 innings in Baltimore and allowed four runs in that brief cup of coffee. Since returning to the Yankees organization last season, the 5’11”, 205-pound Cortes has pitched to a 3.90 ERA with 130 strikeouts against 48 walks and a 35.5 percent ground-ball rate in 145 1/3 innings of work at the Triple-A level.

The Nationals are in sad shape too, just 1 more win than the Orioles.

The Marlins' team OPS+ is the same as Mark Belanger's career OPS+: 68

Mike Wright has a 1.80 ERA through 3 games with Seattle. But he's done that or better at least a few times over that small a sample while he was here.

Meanwhile, Armstrong has an 0.00 ERA since coming over. For now, the swap has worked out for both teams.
