O's don't need a 5th starter until the 22nd

So the O's could do one of the following:

1) Put Lowther in the pen.

2) Stay with a 5 man rotation.

3) Option Lowther and call up Akin as the next man up.  Put him in the pen until the 22nd.

4) Option Lowther and call up McKenna to give Hyde a 4 man bench.

5) Do whatever you think is best.

Any guesses?

I fully expect the O’s to stick with a five man rotation.   They are not looking to push the starters’ innings this year.   As it is, Means is on pace to throw 217 innings.

Do we think it will yield better results in the future? I can’t remember, is he a high spin rate guy? That’s the only way I could ever see it working. I know he gets good extension with his delivery so apparently 90 looks faster than it is, but last night was not encouraging. But like I said, also faced one of the hottest lineups in baseball.

I do not believe the O’s will allow him to go from 43.2 to 217.    Whether I personally think it’s a problem is irrelevant.   It’s what the Orioles think, and they’ve given every indication they are doing to be cautious.

Well, the guys who are getting auditions are not doing well, and the guys we have here are not doing well. 
I asked the question yesterday of when the team would start to make significant changes, and I think the answer should be yesterday. I would like at least one new catcher, I’d like to bring up our Norfolk infield and see how they can do, I don’t know who’s next up in the rotation from Norfolk, but bring him up, no reason not to. Even if it’s Akin and he hasn’t lost any weight, Remember that Bartolo Colon, as Jeff Passan put it, “… Looked like he had swallowed another human being whole.” David Wells always looked like a Volkswagen, so what’s a few extra pounds if you can pitch effectively?

But change… Yes, children, change is good. Let us make some.

Most of the minor league guys are just getting their actual season started. They will let them get about a month or so of playing time before they start making moves unless it is because of an injury.

Be specific on your changes you want to see in terms of bringing the entire Norfolk infield up.

Tell us who you would send down that has options, or DFA for good if they don't.   And what infielders you want to see up.

I'm curious about this plan.

We need to sprinkle in Zimmerman, Kremer, Akin, and Lowther. We have to see what we have. 
 

Heck, why not give Tyler Wells a start. He’s here. He can’t be worse than what we have outside of Harvey and Means.

Put valaika back out there. I mean, why not?

DFA Urias and add Stevie to the 40 and bring him up. Gives the bench AND bullpen some depth.
