I think that if Ben had simply said that "Freddie Glavis - he's hitting better" you'd have been fine.  But you're upset that he used batting average as a barometer?  BA is a perfectly useful stat.  Of course he could have used OBP or OPS or OPS+.  But, BA is a widely used and understood stat for the average game viewer.  Ben is generally very good as a color analyst and I wouldn't get too upset (not that you are) over his use of an old school stat.
