It does feel like we are making steady progress each year but still have a ways to go to reach the goal of being above average internationally.  

I'm in the same boat as you but I assume that all of the top 10 or even top 20 guys are already linked to teams.   I thought we got like the 18th guy and the 46th guy or something like that.   Don't really know.

Hopefully it was just because it was windy or the pitcher was pitching slower than he is use to, but it looks to me like the kid has really slow hands and tries to lift the ball.

Let's get away from all the projected numbers.  The Orioles are just signing these top level guys because they already bleed white, orange and black uniform colors.

So if Braylin gets $2 million or less and Arias gets about 1 million that still leaves at least 3.2 million in their bonus pool.

It's very aggravating to see the Nationals get 2 guys on MLB.com's top 10 list when they start out with a $ 1 million less bonus than the Os.

The Nats have had a strong international market presence for many years. They’ve had several reach MLB in the past ten years, Soto being the crown jewel, of course.

These kids are 15-16 years of age, high school sophomores, more or less. They are raw and undeveloped. Scouting these kids is all about athleticism and projection.

We essentially have 4 int’l league teams now so we have to spread the money around a bit. We have the two DSL teams and the two FCL teams. Elias really doesn’t draft too many HS players. If he does they are bonus baby bats like Mayo, Gunnar, and Creed Willems, that aren’t expected to be in the FCL very long.

Now we can sign 10ish guys in the 200k-400k range. 
 

I just hope we truly do spend our entire $3.2 million allotment.

I wonder how long we’ll have two teams in both leagues.   Only five major league teams do.   I think we did it for two reasons:  (1) trying to add quantity to make up for lack of top prospects and hoping we get lucky with 1-2 guys overlooked by other teams, and (2) the lack of a MiL season in 2020 meant that both the July 2, 2019 class and the January 15, 2021 class had never played in the DSL before this summer.   But I’d guess they will thin the herd as the quality of the guys they are signing improves.

I noticed the Yanks go all in on one Latin every other year.  $4 or $5 million for Dominguez or now Arias.

Then the following year they spread their money around like this year Hans Montero got $1.6 million and the rest for multiple signees.

I like that approach.  I wish the Os would copy it if possible.  The Rays seem to land a top prospect for over $3 million annually too.

I wonder if being located close to the Caribbean helps the Rays too.

I always thought being in the Southeast helped the Braves before they got suspended for cheating in 2016 or 2017.

Braves are JUST getting off suspension Jan 2022.

Not at all. I lived 90 miles from the Atlanta airport for 8 years. It took my friend less time to fly from Dulles to Atlanta than it took me to drive to the Atlanta airport to pick him up. Balitimore is like an hour and a half further by plane from the Caribbean than Atlanta. Just look at teams like the Yankees who have done well in the Caribbean. Proximity means little to nothing. Miami might have a slight destination advantage over other teams, but 99 out of 100 times it is about money. Note that Tampa is not Miami when it comes to places where rich folks from the Caribbean would like to live. Heck even you note that the Braves cheated. That's how they were successful.

It isn't about the money

  It is about the relationship between the player and the team.
