How far is Bellinger from free agency?  It would be nice to get him to sign to an extension, but I don't see a reason for him to do so.  If he even partially rebounds, he would want a $100 mill deal.

2 more years before free agency.

So trade our best performing position player in order to get prospects that don’t usually pan out… i.e Machado deal

Well Machado should’ve been dealt the offseason before but somehow we were still going for it with a team that actually won 47 games. The only thing bad I could say about what DD did in the Machado trade, is that he should’ve gotten more A ball players versus trying to get players that were closer to being ready. However, The Dodgers had just spent $50+ million on Diaz, Pop was 20, and Kremer was leading all of milb in SO.

They are not comparable situations. Machado had two months before FA.Mullins has what three years? Even if he regressed 10% he will still be an outstanding player, he can do everything except throw, and his arm is plenty accurate, it’s just not powerful. That’s a guy anybody would want to have. I would be furious if we did it, but I’d be really interested in what the Yankees would give up to have a guy like him in the lineup

I think everyone expects him to regress, they question is by how much.

Hmm, not so sure. I think there’s a fair amount of expectations that his regular production is approaching this past season. I’m nowhere near as optimistic. It’s why I’d be in favor of moving him.

I would bet on an OPS closer to 800 than 900.

Sure.  Over the final 81 games he had an .811 OPS.   I’d be fine with that, happy in fact.  In terms of trade value, I’m sure other teams are expecting regression.

Right…if he has anything over 780, I think that’s a win for now.  I do think his defense is average-ish, so he may need to be above 800 long term to really carry good value.

I think it’s tough to move him but if someone is valuing him as a 3.5-4 WAR guy who has a lot of service time and cheap years left(thus increasing his value over a normal 3.5-4 WAR guy), I’d likely be inclined to trade him.
