Orioles signing Rougned Odor

The Orioles make a lot of moves that make me angry. Flat angry, because reasonably intelligent men should not make such moves.

We can argue all day long about what positive moves the team should do, but I don’t think we can disagree that this was not a reasonably intelligent move.

We already have multiple guys who are better overall than he is, and within three or four hours there will be an additional 25 non-tendered players from whom to choose. Why in gods name choose this guy?

Oh, I don't think he's going to start playing well again.  But that is still there.  Even if he doesn't achieve it.  And he almost certainly won't.

Anybody worked up about this realizes he can be cut in March with no loss.  There's literally no downside to this move.

This is true.  Opportunity cost.  Which is real and not talked about enough here- especially in regards to signing FAs.

Here I think is some of why the Yankees kept him around.   Cot's yearend 40-man figure lists 2021 Yankees at $207.6mm as they successfully ducked last season's $210mm Competitive Balance Threshold to reset (should a similar system continue).

Odor is certainly competition for Urias for at bats at 2B.  I still think Elias adds a 3B over the winter.

Well, he shouldn’t play second on this team.

In 2019, he had 30 homers and 93 RBIs.  He also had a slash line of 205/283/439.  

Yea, I’m good with not having him hit 30 Homers if that’s going to be his slash line.
