The 40 man excuse is both weak and wrong.

Pretty sure they want to put Means on the 40 day so rather then designating him for assignment, and the aforementioned Johnson (who isn’t technically on the 60 day dl yet, but will have to be added to the 40 man. 
 

I think they have some room if they want to dfa guys, but you would have to do that. It doesn’t come free

DFA’ing players who aren’t good is no big deal.  15 guys can be dropped off the 40 man and you wouldn’t know they are gone.  There is zero reason to be concerned about this or even mention it.

Seems like all the big guys stopped running. Both Cowser and Henderson haven’t stolen much since early in the season. Would be cool to have 20/20 for them.

To you. Elias on the other hand is a major league GM and, like all the rest of them, cares about the 40 man roster. Potentially permanently losing a player in September, might not be worth it to Elias just have to Henderson up a month early

The 40 man is important.

But the O's have accumulated a good number of borderline players over the last season or two that are just guys. As premium players move through the Minors, they will increasingly displace those players making for a REAL issue with the 40 man.

In other words... we don't have a roster squeeze now.... But it's coming.

And we're going to have make strategic trades to prevent releasing real quality players.

The Orioles are going to have "first world" problems soon.  That's something that comes with a stacked minor league system. Welcome to success.

Do you think Elias is losing sleep because he has to DFA Louis Head?

One of the arguments people are using to justify losing Lopez is that Elias has done a good job identifying waiver wire players.  I’m pretty sure if you feel Lopez, a guy who is really good and having a legit AS season, can be replaced, you think he can replace Louis Head.

Why should we (or Elias) care about losing Martin, Bannon or Diaz permanently?
