I just saw the ESPN News clip everyone is talking about. This is likely over for us. ESPN doesn't run that on ESPN News if it's not going to happen. It's one thing for Gammons or Olney to run their biased spin, but ESPN News typically reports stories that they have decent info on.

They've been running Gammons and Olney's "biased spin" for the past week.

The Yahoo Sports report is interesting. So, the offer was more than $160m but less than $184m. Either way, as many of you have pointed out, it's likely one or more of the other teams will beat that so it still comes down to which team Tex is leaning towards.

One thing you should know about the Yahoo writer, Gordon Edes, is that he was a Red Sox beat writer for the Boston Globe for many years and has solid Red Sox and MLB connections. He's generally pretty reliable.

I'm suddenly feeling a little less confident...don't suppose y'all will give me much sympathy on that huh? :D

LOL, nope. ;)

Sorry, but we can't. It would go against the code of conduct of the Orioles fanbase. But you are one of the few good Sox fans left.:)

The problem we have could be something that works in our favor though. Everyone is talking about Tex to BOS being great for Boras because then the Angels and Yanks have money to fight over Manny with. But if he came to BAL, that would stay the same, and BOS would even have money it hadn't planned on having to bring back Tek.

I wouldn't be surprised to see if BAL doesn't have something going on with let us know what your best offer is and give us a chance to match or beat it. Kind of like the Furcal situation, but with all the flak that is getting we'll see. I just know the small ticket buying fan base is going to take a hit between the economy being dreadful and having nothing to look forward to.

OK: what's the latest update. Are we confident?

A plethora of reports that Boston's brass is headed to Texas to meet with Boras & Tex. Many feel like if these meetings end with Tex not being a Red Sox then we're in good shape, as it's likely to be a take it or leave it type deal, though one report specifically mentioned that it wouldn't be.

Also, there are conflicting reports as to the amount of the offer that Boston has prepared. The offers stand somewhere between $160 & $184, over 8 years. Many are slowly regaining confidence as these are offers some feel like the O's will match or exceed when/if we're given the chance to respond.

Belkast, while curious and slightly concerned, remains cautiously optimistic.

    • I've found the older I get, the less interest I have in watching my teams lose. It's a waste of time so I find something else to do. Watching my team lose is not enjoyable so I'd rather do something I'd enjoy. It's not like I'm that old either, just 47. I get a lot more enjoyment out of watching good games with other teams, to be honest. Watching the Bills in the first half last night was fun. The Redskins/Bengals game was fun to watch. Man City and Arsenal on Sunday was great. The Chiefs/Falcons game was a good game. There were a few decent college football games this last weekend as well. I'll watch the game to start tonight and if the O's are down 3-0 after the 1st inning, I'll find something else to do, probably watch some of the other MLB games that have playoff implications.
    • It will be interesting to see if there is any carry over from the HBP's culminating in Heston's beaning.  Hate to say it but that's around when the .500 play started, now much worse.  I did like the way HK stared down Holmes after being hit-I think this series will mean a little more to him.
    • It’s O’s and Yanks. Good guys versus bad guys. Baby Birds up against the Evil Empire — and another trip to the post-season is in the cards. I’ve been cheering for the O’s and very specifically against the Yanks going on six decades, and I’m getting good at it. So, yeah. I’m fired up. Now ask me about hopes and dreams. I don’t think this Orioles team is going to make a run to WS this year.  They have scuffled, they have failed — but I’m reminded, even in the platinum age of data — baseball is still a game of failure.  And man, runners in scoring position over the last week, I’m not sure I want to know that number. They’re still my guys. As long as they’re in it, so am I.
    • Let's go Tampa! Actually, I'm fired up for the offseason.
    • Not fired up, per se, but engaged in the ramp-up to playoff baseball. On one hand, it's like the spring training phase of gearing up for playoffs. On the other hand, it's like the playoffs have already begun. We're qualified for round 1, which consists of the next 6 games. Even watching the other teams play now is entertaining, as they jostle for entry to the next round.
    • I really think that Westburg is the difference maker for us. I don't know why, but the offense just doesn't run right without him... like an engine that needs a tune up. I'm glad he's back with a week to go in the regular season.
    • Don't be too hard on yourself OP. We've all been there. For me, I usually hit a frustration point mid-late season and then start to just accept things. Baseball is a very weird, very inscrutable game sometimes. I've driven myself a bit nuts this season with the Adley thing because it's one of those baseball things that just doesn't make a lot of sense. Same with the pitching injuries.  Each season is a little narrative. This one will be the year we had a bunch of injuries, the year of the RISP regression, the year of the rookie struggles, the year of the questionable Elias trades, the year we couldn't follow up on the 100-win season, etc. And yet - it will be a playoff year. And that's the only goal of every regular season: make the playoffs. Hopefully our playoff narrative will change this time around.
