Happy 85th Birthday, Brooks!

How did we all miss that? I guess we've been relying on Roy for this stuff.

Have never heard a bad word uttered against Brooks. It's a shame the falling out he had with Angelos for the longest time.

I've never had the pleasure of meeting him but by all accounts he sounds like a 1st class gentleman.  I hope he celebrated his birthday in style.  Here's to you Brooks!

I was 12 years old and me and my two buddies went to Mailman's Department store to get Brooks Robinson and Mark Belanger's autograph.  When we finished we called my mom, on a pay phone, to have her pick us up.  We were sitting on the curb waiting when Brooks came over and sat down next to us.  He asked what we were doing. We told him we were waiting on our ride, he said he was too.  He spoke to us for a few minutes and then Belanger pulled up and they drove away.  Greatest two minutes of my childhood.

Brooks is just the best.  I've posted this before, but when I was in 8th, 9th and 10th grade we lived in Kaiserslautern, West Germany.  (My Dad was in the army and stationed over there).  Every year I would send something to Brooks for his birthday... usually Danish Sugar Cookies that came in a tin that we'd get at the commissary.  Every year he'd send back an autographed 8 x 10 picture with a nice note.  Years later I met him at a promotional event at a Durham Bulls game. I told him the story and he, very kindly, pretended to remember getting those cookies and said how touched he was that we would do that.  Made my day to say the least.

I may have missed something, but I haven't read anything about Brooks recently. I hope he's OK, and just too nice a person to say anything about the current Oriole team.
