Actually with 4 runs plus a baserunner in 3+ he is on pace for worse than that

The idea is to score a run without leaving it up to the umpire.

The worst is when the hitter rips one up the middle past the pitcher and with shift the fielder just standing right there.  My entire life when I was being coached or coaching now and it was take right back the middle.  Now a lot of the time that is an out.

If you go around the catcher when they are in the way you have a higher chance of being thrown out. I would tell my baserunner to run the catcher over any chance they get.
