What is the O's best rotation in July?

1.  Grayson - Has the stuff to be an ace but probably a year away from being able to pitch the innings to be a true ace.

2.  Bradish -  After watching this guy in the the 2nd half he has the stuff, size and mentality to be a #2.

3.  Hall -  Stuff is there.  If he goes to AAA and finds the control ...watch out.

4.  Kremer -  3.23 ERA maybe he should be higher.   He would be killer #4.

5.  Means -  Could be a 2 or 3 but just coming back for injury it might take some time to re-capture his full command.

What do you think?

I agree with those five but with two rookies, two guys in their second year and Means coming back from injury, we will be sure to see a six man rotation at that point and that means either Gibson or Irvin will be the 6th.  My bet is Irvin, with Gibson going somewhere via trade.

I wouldn’t count on Hall this year too much. I mean maybe a couple of spot starts. At this point, he has to prove he’s a SP. Hall definitely shouldn’t know Irvin out of the rotation.

Here’s how I see our rotation come July in terms of strategy.

Irvin - workhorse. Let him disrupt timing for Grayson.

Grayson - Best stuff on staff.

Means - His stuff should play up even more with everyone gearing up for Grayson’s FB velocity.

Bradish - Just like Grayson, his Velo should play up after Means disrupts timing.

Gibson - Workhorse

That’s how a rotation should be. Each SP benefits the next guy.

For what it is worth, Fangraphs projects Kremer to lead the O's rotation in IP, WAR, and ERA in 2023.

I think in a perfect world our rotation at the end of July would look like this:

1. Grayson- Hits the ground running. Top 3 in ROY voting.

2. Means- He bounces right back from Tommy Johns. His change up is unaffected and still nasty. He becomes the #2 starter on a playoff team he was always meant to be.

3. Kremer- I think he'll be our opening day starter. And I think this is the season he settles in as a real solid #3 type guy.

4. Bradish- We saw flashes of it last season. This kid can ball!

5. Irvin- Hear me out! I think Irvin profiles as an ok #4 type and an above-average #5 starter. I think the new wall at Camden Yards will suit him. It will be nice to have two lefties in the rotation and if he can settle in and have a season like last year, that would be huge for us. We have him for four years and he's making around the minimum. I'd be much more excited to see him do well than Gibson, who is older, has less upside, and is only here for a year.

And then I think you stretch Hall out in the bullpen and he's the 6th man.

A lot can happen in ST and an offseason, but Hall is far away from making starts for this team. IMO he’s behind Voth, Wells, and Watkins. Fortunately there is absolutely no reason to rush Hall. Let him start for a good period of time and be a late season bullpen weapon for us in 23’, with hopes that he can be in the mix for a rotation spot in 24’.

I'm not sure Means will be ready in July. I think it's safe to assume a few injuries, but in lieu of that, I think when Means does come back, it will add a 6th man to the rotation and not replace anyone. I hope Grayson earns his way to be the defacto #1. Kremer, Bradish, Irvin and Gibson round out the 5 with Means making 6. In all likelihood, someone will go down and Wells or Voth (or maybe both) will step in. In a perfect world, Hall will prove himself as a starter in AAA, showing improved command and will be in the rotation in place of an injured starter ahead of Wells and Voth. That said, I expect Hall settles in as a back-end reliever.

I am not in favor of a 6 man rotation because it makes the pen go from 8 pitchers to 7.

I think you’ll come up with a list just to prevent Irvin from being in the rotation or to get him out of the rotation.  LOL

That will only happen if the other starters are better than Irvin.   And I think that will happen.  To me Irvin is someone who can pitch a lot of innings but will not be that effective.   We will see after the season begins.

Came here to say this lol.

My man hates Irvin!

I don't hate Irvin.  I just don't have much faith in him be that good.   I will root for him though.

When I look at the potential of Grayson, Bradish, Means, Kremer and Hall.....Irvin just does not measure up.
