MLB.com all underrated team

I don't think Mountcastle is all that underrated.  Just yesterday I pulled a card of him from a pack of Topps that labeled him as one of the Stars of MLB.

Kind of silly, but something like that is how you know that he's on the national radar a bit more than someone like Santander.  Other guys I got in this subset are Scherzer and Julio Rodriguez.

I think Santander is practically unknown on a national level.  But I agree with the above, I think Urias is even more underrated, especially amongst the fanbase despite the GG.

I don't know if Elias "underrates" Urias, but it's clear, both this year and last, they don't want him playing 150 games at 2b.

But they could put Gunnar at SS and Urias at third.  So you can argue that they rate Mateo higher, despite a worse bat and worse track record.

Personally, I don’t view the Gunnar situation like that, so I don’t agree with that statement even though I’m mentioning it but looking at the question of Urias and his value on the team and by fans, I can see using that argument.

Sure the equation is actually a little more complex.  Again though I think it shows the FO's bias: They're going to prioritize defense.  Be it playing Mateo at SS, or not playing Urias at 2b.

I see Topps is still playing it fast & loose with the players they dub as stars. I like Mountcastle, but I don't think he's a star player (at least yet).

I think Urias is over rated. He had a .305 OBP and 103 OPS+.

He plays a nice 3B, but I'd characterize him at best as an average starter on an average team. On a good team, he should be hitting toward the bottom of the lineup.

You more or less proved my point.

1.  His 103 OPS+ last year is slightly above league average, including for a 3B.

2.  He deservedly won a Gold Glove and excelled at essentially every fielding metric.

3.  He was worth 3.6 rWAR, 2.6 fWAR despite playing in only 118 games due to injuries.

4.  Yet, you characterize him as “at best an average starter on an average team.”

That’s the very definition of underrated.  By the way, he batted in the 6th spot or later in 72 of 109 games he started.  So, he’s hitting towards the bottom of the lineup.
