Which is why he should be playing there everyday. Get him the reps he needs to be adequate then he's the 1B next year.

I was at the game tonight and not only did he hit that mammoth blast, he made several nice defensive plays including one coming in with a strong off balance throw to first to get the runner.

Actually, I don;t think that;s true. We only have two seasons to go by where he had two full seasons of 1st half and 2nd half and that's 2021 and 2022. In 2021 he hit better in the 2ndhalh, and last year he hit poorly in the 2nd half.

I think it has more to do with his health at the time vs the time of year. Hays has been a productive player when he's healthy.

Saying all that, Hays could be a guy who is going to get more expensive and with Cowser, they have an inhouse replacement who will be cheaper, so I could see him getting moved in the right deal. 

I still would like to see Mayo get some playing time in RF to see how he looks. He may end up too big to be out there and is going to be slow, but his arm certainly would be special out there.

3-for-3 and up to .314 batting average.     Last year Gunnar was 150 Bowie and 250 Norfolk plate appearances before Baltimore.    Mayo now around 250 Bowie plate appearances this year.

312/452/573 was the Gunnar Bowie line on the way to the conversation for #1 overall prospect.

The Frazier signing is really killing us wrt promoting our minor league players. By all rights Westburg should have been with the big league club out of Spring Training, and Mayo moved up to AAA a month ago. We're holding back young players that are above average to protect an old guy who is below average. It makes no sense.

It makes sense if you look at from the viewpoint of Elias' main goal this season as being to delay service clocks.

Now is it to save money?  Try and stagger the service time to maximize competitive window?

He said from the start that the team's goal this year wasn't to win the division.

I think he wants to stack the system so tight and so strong so that he has multiple shots at the ROY extra picks every year.  Starting to think we won’t see anyone until it doesn’t mess with their rookie eligibility next year.

Maybe Elias is worried that if all the hot prospects are promoted in the same season then down the road they’ll all hit free agency at the same time. He’s staggering their promotions as much as possible so as not to have the roster get nuked five or six years from now.

      I see a playoff team with maybe the same expectations the 2023 team had going into the season. Possibly being picked to finish between 2nd and 4th in our division.     SP - Eflin, Grayson, Big Al, Kremer, Povich McDermott in AAA. Bradish and Means back in the 2nd half????  Wells too? RP - Bautista, Cano, Dominguez, Soto, Coloumbe, Webb, Perez, Akin 1B - Mountcastle DH - O’Hearn 2B - Holliday 3B - Westburg SS - Gunnar C - Adley LF - Cowser CF - Mullins RF - Kjerstad Bench - Mateo, Urias, backup C, RH OF or Mayo Basallo up mid season This is us baby.  We are who we are.  The only way to get experience is to actually get experience. Sorry to Brad Fuller maybe our “vet” can be a former player as hitting coach.  Carlos Beltran or Bonds.

      I would love to sign any hitters who have actually experienced postseason success and wins.....maybe even championships.  Gurriel for KC has been a part of a lot of postseason wins and having veterans on the team like that are valuable.  I saw somewhere the KC guys said they really benefitted from having Gurriel, Pham, Sal Perez, and others who have been there and done that.  Continuing to rely on young players with nothing but zeroes on their postseason resumes isn't helpful.   I heard Francona is going to manage the Reds.  Great move for them.  I would have loved to have him, given he is a Hall of Famer with actual WS championships and a ton of October success.

      Crazy to lose to the same city in all three sports with two to be considered monumental upsets. I believe the Knicks were actually favored against the Bullets, but not sure as it was before I was born.

      That entire series very much hurt. Benitez was awful. He hung a slider to Grissom (the eventual ALCS MVP) allowing a go-ahead homer in the top of the 8th of game 2. The squeeze play you mentioned that I haven't been convinced wasn't foul in game 3. Game 4 had two of their guys score on the same wild pitch where it looked like David Justice blocked Lenny Webster after scoring the first of those two runs. And then of course, the last hanging slider from Armando to Tony Fernandez that proved to be the game winner in game 6. Just painful all around.
