Coby Mayo 2023

He's leading all Minor League Bats in wRC (the counting stat)...Jackson Holliday is Top 10.

Gunnar made at least one nice play at SS yesterday - the possibility of a Mayo/Gunnar/Holliday infield might make the water too deep even for Jordan Westburg to keep a starting job.

Westburg might become the Chris Taylor type.    Would love to see an offense where Westburg is Bat 10 and the Top 10 Bats can take 90-95% of the team's PA over the next 4 years.

Mayo will go to first and Henderson will be at third.

Ya, IMO the best infield configuration will be Gunner at 3B, Holliday at SS, Westburg at 2B, Mayo at 1B, with Ortiz as the super-sub. That might be he best IF in the game.

Ortiz may be the better player and Westburg may be better first as the super sub. But yea, that is all possible.

Its also likely that you trade one of those 2 for pitching and Urias is your super sub.

The pitcher's reaction is priceless.

Two things cracked me up about this clip. the pitcher's dejected reaction and the announcer describing the action of the outfielder as "he leaps, it's gone." Meanwhile the clip shows the outfielder just stopping at the wall. Guess that extra excitement was for the radio listeners.

Just saying that like Holliday and Gunnar probably each preferring SS reps for future earnings potential, its another gear for Mayo if he can stick at 3B.     So far this year he's been at 1B about 15%.

I see you, @Just Regular.  It goes to the weighting of the skill sets.  IF Elias/SigBot go max offense in the infield, then (1st to 3rd) KH/Basallo, Jackson, Gunnar, and Mayo could be that type of infield.  I suspect those odds are slim, but it's a non-zero chance.

Westburg is going to be an elite run producer.  That's all he's done since he was drafted.  I want him in the lineup every day.

From Roch

Double-A Bowie’s Coby Mayo was named Eastern League Player of the Month after batting .340 with a 1.178 OPS, eight home runs and 18 RBIs. He failed to reach base in only two of 26 games.

Put him at first at Norfolk and get ready to call him up. Cody Bellinger was shoehorned into first base despite being a great centerfielder because the Dodgers had too much talent at the time.

The outfield is crowded, the infield is crowded, but 1B seems to be a question mark.

Shocker.

Absolute gem of a video/channel. 20 minutes of Coby breaking down select at bats on a pitch-by-pitch basis. Rare insight into a hitter's mentality at a granular level.

Thanks for posting, that's one of the best baseball videos I've ever seen.
