Monday, May 15: Grayson Rodriguez vs Shohei Ohtani

The O's have the second best record in baseball, our farm system has the longest-running streak in the top spot, the organization has universal approval across the league, and we get to see two of the greatest baseball players ever come into town tonight.

And people here are still histrionic and cynical. What is the point of following sports if you apparently enjoy absolutely nothing about it?

Problem is, Elias has not shown any ability to do that. He's traded for one starter and it was Cole Irvin.

He has 4 drafts under his belt and had not drafted one single pitcher that looks like a major league starter right now and has not traded for any of them either.

How many legitimate starters are available in the off season or trading deadline that are not rentals?

The Braves drafted Strider and Elder in the same draft (2020). Maybe it's not that they shouldn't draft pitching, but maybe they are not great at developing pitching?

Now saying that, I do think they've developed Kremer and Bradish so I can't say they haven't developed anyone, but Rodriguez even in AAA this year never was dominating.

Tyler Wells’ improvement is also due to this organization.

I think something is definitely wrong mentally or physically or both with Grayson.  He is not the same pitcher he was before the injury.

He needs to go to AAA to regain his mojo. I still believe his talent wii prevail.

He's about to break the all time record free agent contract

I guess you just add the contracts for a top starter and a top cleanup hitter and you have his contract.

As long as he doesn't end up on the NYY or RS, I am fine with it.

Here's the thing. The O's have the second best record in baseball, and I still think they haven't put their best roster together, nor have their players played their best baseball.

So what?  He's an international player.  They signed him in 2010, worked to develop him, and then traded him to the Red Sox several years later where he began his MLB career.

So what?

The initial comment specified players that were drafted and developed by the O's.

Ed Rod never pitched an inning for us.  Arrieta doesn’t count.  He was horrible here and instantly became good after we traded him.  Britton was never a good starter.

The point was who was developed in the Oriole organization.  All three of them were whether they were good here or not.  Arrieta's problems here seemingly were not his development -- perhaps just bad MLB coaching or something else.  Many good starters struggle in their initial years, though Arrieta was a extreme example.
