Mullins to hit for Hays?  That's interesting

Esp. with Hays being hot (3 for 4 today) and batting much better vs. RHP this year than vs. LHP by a big margin: .323 vs. .250 BA and .897 vs. .701 OPS! (Stats coming into today's game.) It worked, but of course if Hays batted he would have hit a homer 🫠

When is the cavalry that I keep hearing of coming? Because all these games count.

Each game does count and this is the second of the young season that they have lost on a mental error with two outs.

Attention to detail matters and in the last two innings we saw:

-McKenna miss a cut off man from 75 feet away allowing a potential winning run to advance

-Columbe fail to cover first with two outs, and I am assuming the dugout and Frazier didn't call it out to him as he froze

-Frazier (who I like more than most) runs  with his head up watching the right fielder....every kid over 12 knows you don't do that-you pick up the coach....

You can blame the bullpen but mental errors, lackadaisical play, and poor fundamentals played a large part in this loss.

That was a nice throw for sure, but good God Frazier is slow. He looks like he's running hard in quicksand.

Because he is running for multiple strides looking at the right fielder.  Every kid knows pick up the base coach not to run like that.

McKenna missing the cut off man, Coloumbe forgetting to cover then Frazier's idiocy.  You don't deserve to win with three mental error/poor fundamentals in the last two innings.  The bullpen wasn't the only thing that sucked'

McKenna missing a cut off man from 75 feet away, sometimes it's like he's the kid picking dandelions out there....

I'm not sure where @Bemorewinsis right now, but I'm kicked back watching Cease pitch pretty well today.

Ha ha... Had to spend the day off with the wife, so I missed the game today.

I don't know how I got crowned as king of the Dylan Cease fan club...lol

I like Cease, but there are other guys that I like too. I just want the club to upgrade the starting pitching in a significant way. Right now Cease isn't pitching so well. Though today was a quality start technically for him. Maybe his performance will help lower his value/the CHI SOX's demands in a trade? Either way, I want to enter the stretch run with at least one guy better than the "5 and dive" guys that we have.

It's not even Memorial Day and our bullpen is starting to show the wear. Anybody else concerned about the number of appearances of a guy like Baker already?

Today's game (looking at the box score and heard the last 2 innings on the radio) appears to be an example of the dilemma that Hyde finds himself in when we do not have our most 2 back end guys available because of their overuse. We then are turning to mediocre guys to help us in big spots. That's fine against the A's, Royals, Nats, Tigers, but against good lineups, that's not going to consistently get it done.

His defense let him down today. He was pitching well.

Well the CHI SOX have a pretty bad d in general.

Would I be very happy to have Cease as an O? Yeah

Am I married to the idea of Cease or bust? No

As long as we significantly upgrade our the front end of our staff, I’m good.

I didn't see the game so thanks for the eyes on. Yes, McKenna has always been that guy. Never has been know for his game awareness unfortunately.

McKenna doesn't fit my picture of a defensive specialist. I'm sure he's better than the outfielders he replaces, but not as much as we need.

    • I’m not really worried about his performance, I’m worried about his injury history And the probability that it would interfere with him and the rest of the season. However, He is coming down to earth a bit; it’s not just his last outing, but his last few outings, I think. Still love to have him, but the price I would be willing to pay has decreased a little bit.
    • Well that explains how we keep ending up with bad relievers off the trash heap.
    • Mateo has an open stance at the plate and also stands back from the plate. Hence, he is very susceptible to the  slider or sweeper off the plate. I was expecting a strike out last night with runners on first and third. In fact, he had two swings and misses at outside breaking pitches during that at bat. But, the pitcher threw one that was in the wrong place and Mateo ripped it. He is doing a good job of staying on those pitches he can handle. And, as stated above, not quite as prone to wave at outside breaking stuff. He is fun to watch.
    • @now had it right - I saw it also on the O's Xtra pregame show - Rob Long did a 2-day "school" talking with Sig on the advanced stats.    I think this is it. I've joked before you can get a lead on Orioles targets just looking at whose ERA-FIP differential is bad. I believe the 30 GM's collectively are past that as they negotiate with each other, but I'm sure they are all trying to optimize each individual negotiation. Its fun to watch Sig navigate what do I want to say to the MASN viewer that none of the other 29 orgs can scrape for tidbits of anything the Orioles are drilling in on. "We like players who are good"
    • Miller is mikes better than any of our relievers. One bad outing doesn’t change that. Felix had bad outings before. It happens.
    • As I said, in my second post, he has improved, I don’t care what he did last year. I’m much more interested in what he’s doing this year. And he’s improved, but he still walking seven batters per nine, and as far as I’m concerned, No. He was maddening when he was here, and I expect that he would be if he returned
    • Is that true? I don't think that it is. I think baseball and other sports are similar in this respect. I picked a random NHL player... literally the first one I stumbled on, Luc Robitalle. He played 19 years in the NHL. Had a peak goal scoring season of 63, and also had seasons of 23, 15, 11, 30. Heung-min Son is a poplar Premier League soccer player, a forward, for Tottenham Hotspur. In his nine years with the club he's scored totals including 4, 14, 12, 11, 23, and 10 goals. Wayne Rooney was a regular starter in the Premier League from 2002-2018 and had goals scored totals anywhere from six to 27, including consecutive years in his prime of 27, 11, 11, 26. In the space of eight years Wilt Chamberlain had season average scoring marks of anywhere from 24 to 50 points per game. In 1981 John Riggins played in 15 NFL games, rushed 194 times for 714 yards and 13 TDs. In 1983 he played in 15 games and rushed 375 times for 1347 yards and 24 touchdowns.
