Probably not. Maybe Mateo.

So I haven't read through the entire thread..  apologies in advance as I am sure you have already posted your ideas.. but if you don't mind, what would you move to obtain what it will take to get us over the top and still be set in the future?

Well that depends on what is available, how long they are controlled for, etc…

Based off of info we have, besides the obvious MLers that you aren’t trading, im Not moving Mayo, Holliday, Cowser, Basallo, Fabian, Kjerstad or GRod for anything available at the deadline.

If bigger names under longer team control become available, maybe I would amend that list.

Anyone else is up for trade if the right player is there.

Stowers and Norby represent 2 solid upside guys that are redundant for us, so they would be the 2 I would looking to trade the most and for a solid rental or even someone with some more service time, they could definitely be part of a package(or the whole package).

Unfortunately neither can the front of severe thunderstorms forecasted to pass through the area between 6 and 10 pm.

It’s the summer, there’s always a chance and likely will move quickly, if they even come. I’m sure they play tonight

I hate to do this because I’m excited to see Westburg like everyone else. But Westburg isn’t half the prospect that Manny was. Many is a future HOF. Let’s try to be a bit reasonable and not place unrealistic expectations upon Westburg.

Obviously you are correct, but I don’t think Sanfran327 was suggesting that Westburg would have a career like Manny’s.   Rather, he was suggesting Westburg could have an impact on our player push, like Manny did.

If he does, it will be a different kind of impact than Manny had. As noted, Manny held his own with the bat, but where he really impacted things in 2012 was his otherworldly glove.   And it wasn’t just that he was so good; a huge part of it was that the guys he was replacing (Betemit, Reynolds, Tolleson etc.) had been terrible (-13 Rtot, -14 Rdrs).  Our defense went from bad to excellent overnight.

Westburg isn’t going to be better defensively than the guys he’s replacing, so his impact will have to come on offense.  There, while I don’t expect him to have Manny’s career with the bat, he’s arguably better equipped to contribute in Year 1 than Manny was.  After all, Westburg has excelled in 714 AA plate appearances, while Manny never played AAA at all before he was promoted to the majors.  He’s had a lot more opportunity to develop his bat compared to Manny, who was learning on the fly.

I will be surprised if Westburg has the impact that Manny did overall, but he certainly could give us a boost if he outhits Frazier and Mateo, which isn’t that high a bar.

We know that now. And yes, they have different prospect status. I said as much in my post. But he's still become a very, very promising prospect, and he's coming up to help fill a void in a contending team.

Really, the point in the post that I quoted was most about how long it will take for him to adjust, and my analogy was that Manny came up with even bigger expectations and was able to tread water while also learning a new position. I think Westburg is getting promoted to a better team and a better situation, and I think that favors him. I don't think that a .739 OPS is out of the question for him.

We are going to need some trade bait to pickup a solid bat and a #1/2 pitcher. Getting as many guys playing time to up their value is good strategy. Players I would be open to moving:

  • Mateo / Ortiz (Keep one)
  • Frazier
  • O'Hearn

I think I'd like to keep Gibson, Bradish, Wells and Kremer, need someone better than all of them at the front.

Bullpen arms I would also be open to moving. Keep either Baker or Bauman.  Move Perez perhaps Irvin.

LOL … Out of all the guys that you “want to move” only Joey Ortiz has any value at all. Some of them like Perez and Irvin, you would have to give away. O’Hearn would be a half of a season rental, platoon specialist who has never done it before; like how much do you think that’s really worth to a team?

That is probably accurate .. I agree you won’t be likely able trade for a legit controllable TOR (not a rental) without one or more of those prospects in the deal

A weather guy I follow on Facebook, who is really good and better than anyone else out there, is saying that as of now, it looks like we should dodge anything tonight but there is some storm risk between 5-7.  So maybe we see a delay but sounds like getting the game in shouldn’t be an issue.
