I’m not trying to put it on one guy but I think his performance the rest of the way could be the biggest difference between winning the division and being a WC.  

I think SD was a little different story than his start against CLE. The SD game he gave up 1 ER in 6 IP with 7 K’s and 1 BB. He was objectively very good and the defense let him down.

That pop up against CLE should have been caught and cost him 2 runs. But he also was staked to an early lead and then walked in a run against a .200 hitter the following half inning. The next AB, he couldn’t get a K or an unproductive out against a .150 hitter with a 36% K rate, which resulted in a sac fly. And even before the Naylor double, he had a runner on 1st and 2 outs and walked Ramirez to put Kwan in RISP for Naylor. He only had 2 K’s to go along with the 2 BB’s in 5 innings. 

He was okay against CLE but that bottom of the 2nd was awful and I think he was clearly better against SD - he pitched really well that game.

In our current "everyday" lineup, only Mullins, Mayo, and O'Hearn, have not been 1st rd draft picks.  Mayo was paid like one.  Mullins is in line to be replaced by one of two 1st rd draft picks in EBJ, and Honeycutt.  

Point being... it's really hard to crack our lineup.  Not only do we trot out a bunch of former 1st rd picks, but mostly guys ranked #1-#50 at the time of their call up.  Closer to the top half of that range.  

Basallo will be the next one up, and he's as high as #4.  

We've definitely grown the bats.

Haha, I grew up in Florida and HATE the heat as well! I moved to New England for 15 years and loved it as a result.

Now I’m living here in Baltimore and the heat is KILLING me!!!

I’m so tired of this summer. Feels like the hottest one we have had in awhile. Not sure the facts back me up but it feels that way.

I have really come to dislike summer other than baseball. It just feels so bad and gross all of the time now.

It is.   We've tied the all time record for 100 degree days recorded in Baltimore with 6 (last two times with 6 were 1988 and 2010).   And chances are there will be at least one more and it will break the all time record.

The # of 90+ degree days is high too, though it hasn't gotten to any records yet.   But it very well could.

Feels like 90 plus for last 6 weeks.

David Wells said the worst place he ever played in was Baltimore because of the heat and humidity.  It's been pretty bad this year.  But that's why you put a pool in your yard, fellas.  Come on! ;)  Cut the grass - take a dip.  Stain the fence - take a dip.  Drink a beer - take a dip. ;)

Oh man the same here. Give me the cold any day day of the week over this hot weather. Yuck.. I'm ready for Fall.

Or, just stay inside and use the money you would have spent on that pool to pay other people to do those things, and take a two-week vacation in Maine.

      As badly as we have played for 2 months now, we STILL have not lost more than 2 in a row since before the All Star Break.   So I'm going to cling to that and say we get the W tonight.   Then one more in the series and take 2 of 3. I am as perplexed by the hitting slump as everyone else.   But I refuse to believe it is "real" and somehow indicative of talent, and that it is impossible or even unlikely that we will break out of it.   Adley IS better than the numbers we have seen for several months.   Just by virtue of age, Holliday is a guaranteed lock to put up better overall numbers than he has so far.   O'Hearn, like Adley, has enough of a track record that we know he is better than what we have seen the last month or so.   Santander is slumping which was somewhat expected due to his great stretch, but that slump won't last forever either. There's absolutely no reason this team should have so many games with no hits for the first 3-4 innings, or only 2 or 3 hits for the first 6, 7, innings or even the game.     It sure as hell leads me to question what kind of hitting coaching we have, but I refuse to believe the team we are putting out on the field should have those kind of games with the frequency that they have been.   So I can only conclude that it will end.   Gunnar has started getting hot.   If a couple more hitters join the fun it can be contagious.

      He very well may not have an injury, but also very well may have back that's bothering him a bit. I don't know, but I have to hope his absolute awful slump at the plate since June is because of something not right with him physically.

      I don’t think his performance was as sustainable as it was in previous years though. He was hitting the ball slightly harder, but his walk rate was way down and his K rate was way up. His BABIP was also a lot higher than his career number and IIRC, his xwOBA was worse than his first 2 seasons. He was still good but most advanced stats pointed to him still being worse offensively than his first 2 seasons. His BB/K rate has stabilized at least, he’s just not doing any damage when he makes contact.

      We have a very bad end of the year schedule for attendance.  We know once school comes back that attendance will drop unless you have important games vs teams in contention.  Our schedule since middle of August when schools went back has is. 4 games Houston drew well but then had the Sunday night game the day before a lot of schools went back that hurt attendance. 3 vs the White Sox 3 vs the Rays 3 vs the Tigers  3 vs the Giants. All the big series seem to be on the road.  Red Sox which is semi fighting for playoffs, Yanks which could be for division then Twins which could be for the 1st Wild card seed.   The Yankees and Twins series would have drawn well well for us compared to what we will see with who we have.

      Attendance is only going to be so high for weekday games, especially during the school year.  Next year you won’t have the Phillies series at home, so you have to adjust for that as well. So the team is going to have to do some special things (agree with Frobby that winning in the postseason will help). One thing I don’t see happening as much is the drive to sign up for season tickets now to get postseason tickets this year. With so many getting to go last year, after years of not going, there is a certainly level of novelty that gets worn off the second straight year. So I really think what they do in the postseason and offseason will determine where things stand for next year.
