Jim Bowden proposed this.

Marlins trade RHP Edward Cabrera to Orioles for INF Jordan Westburg

Seems at least interesting.

I’d rather try to send them Ortiz than Westburg. I don’t think we want to mess with team chemistry too much and Westburg seems like he’s pretty good friends with most of the young guys. I know him and Gunnar were good friends coming up in the minors.

The Giants currently hold a wildcard spot and are only 3 games behind the Dodgers for the division lead.  I can't see them trading any of their better players though they do need an infielder.

It’s not hindsight when you are someone who has advocated for pitching moves the last few years.

At least as it relates to the 2022 offseason, I felt pretty underwhelmed about that FA class.  Eovaldi would have been pretty much the only move that would be a win.  A lot of the other pitching signings have been underwhelming at least for this year.

I think you can make a decently strong argument that our development team has done such a good job building some of the guys on the farm that our best move was to stand pat and trade from a surplus at the deadline.  Especially if you believe in your pipeline enough that you expect to be able to reload in subsequent years.

Of course, this depends on the Orioles actually making a move.

This was discussed earlier.

I don't mind trading for Cabrera.  But I'm not trading major league talent for him while we're in a pennant race.  We have a hole in a position that Westburg covers.  Frazier shouldn't be starting on a regular basis.

The worst contract we have is for our backup catcher who we owe 4M to next year.

Kyle Gibson: $10 Million. Adam Frazier: $8 Million. But maybe those contracts have been worth the return. Ok...

We signed an aging relief pitcher who's been stuck on IL and is owed a minimum of $5 just to not pay his year 2 salary. But OK... You do you.

Easy FF, the 4M for McCann was clearly a reference to what is on the books for next year.     Besides maybe a buyout on Givens I don’t think we owe any of the the guys a dime.
