Can we just appreciate the stability that Cole Irvin is providing the Orioles in this moment right now? He's managed to put out the fire and slowly steady the ship so far. Now the Orioles just gotta get the bats going. They're 4 runs from tying it.

Irvin has been solid the last few turns and now in the bullpen. Will be interesting to see if he sticks in the bullpen or makes his way back to the rotation.

Just as long as we then accept the losses that have and will come this year as part of the tradeoff for development for next year.

We have done a good job thus far balancing the two. We are going to make the playoffs this year regardless, you can bank that. Our best teams won't start coming until next year when Kjerstad and Mayo join along with Holliday at some point. When all those guys are up and Gunnar and Adley have another year of growth/experience we will then be able to start competing with the Braves/Rays. Right now they are a tier better than we are, especially the Braves.

I don't put much stock into this game because we screwed Wells by getting him off schedule. This was the same type of bot thinking that caused the Marlins to use an opener on Sunday instead Luzardo effectively handing us the sweep. Some times you can get too cute/smart with the tinkering and outthink yourself.

We shall see .. hopefully they figure it out soon because ultimately performance is required, not just potential.

I don't think it's guaranteed we make the playoffs this year as hot as Boston and Toronto are lately.  The O's need to keep winning.  And we need more pitching.

    • When you are in a championship window, roster spots are extremely important. You need room to wiggle, but also usable players for the major league roster in that year. They could add another, but I don’t think Pham or Van Loon would be lost. If they are, they’re easily replaced. We need shuttle arms, with many of our current group out of options. I wonder if they actually even take a rule 5 pick this year.
    • This whole rebuilding from the ground up stuff needs to stop. The rebuild was over a few years ago and the Os have a defined philosophy of how they draft, how they develop, etc…what they had to rebuild from is completely irrelevant now. It’s done, it’s been done. They draft how they draft because they believe it’s the best way. They develop how they develop because they believe it’s the best way.
    • He looked good last night. Not overly reliant on his FB too.
    • You are looking for reason here?  lol. Good luck. Of course he needs to make adjustments. We knew that the day he drafted him. If he was batting 500 right now, he would still need to make adjustments. Thats what happens.
    • This idea that Gunnar should move to third because he’s not elite at SS is pure nonsense.   Even the idea of moving him because he’s not elite and then talking about Holliday and Westburg at SS is laughable. Even with the defensive slump, Gunnar is average at SS.   However, he only made 8 errors at SS last year in 83 games and he was among the top 3 SS in the AL in defensive metrics in the first half. He’s a 23 yo SS who’s already good with the ability to be well above average, if not elite.      SportsGuy has had a Gunnar to 3B agenda for quite some time.   A lot of it had to do with his obsession that Holliday was drafted 1:1 as a SS and SS for the Baltimore was his destiny.   It’s sad. Think about this.  He doesn’t argue that the current, super talented SS can get better.   He only argues that Holliday can get better.    We know Gunnar does everything well at SS but he’s been error prone in the 2nd half.   He has the tools to be very, very good.   He’s also shown he can go long stretches at SS without making a lot of errors. Stop the sillines!
    • Right and I’m not trying to turn it into that. Im solely talking about the long term outlook of Gunnar at SS and I don’t see him as a long term answer over there but I do think it’s possible.
    • You’re observing Honeycutt really struggle in his debut which has led you to the conclusion that he’s going to need a lot of reworking this off season.   Conclusion  a judgment or decision reached by reasoning.
