Fine I'll check ;).  He had to be talking about at the Trop. Because they're 4-2 there this season and were a combined 3-16 the previous two seasons.

Sorry, late to this party, but yes, I'm pretty sure that he specified this (pretty certain that he used "here" in his quote, as in, "Here [in the Trop]") at the time, when he said it.  I remember having that direct understanding in real time when it happened.

That was JA's wife? Well of course she would just feel she can do whatever she wants during a live broadcast. Now I know why all of the announcers just acted like nothing had happened when that woman took the selfie.

I thought it was BB's wife getting a selfie with Scotty McGregor.

Hired Kevin Brown too, though?

But we can agree to disagree.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a JA fan.  I think he's probably a bit of a jerk but he's not only hired Elias, it seems as if he's given Elias reign to do whatever he wants to right the direction of the franchise.  I don't think he's gotten in the way.

And I know that could spark off a giant debate about whether or not Elias is allowed to spend money...people are going to act like they know for sure when they really don't.

I'm probably not remembering some things but all I know for sure is that JA went media silent there for a few years after hiring Elias.  He had that dust up with Connolly earlier before the season started and that rambling mess of an impromptu media conference in Spring Training.  He's not media savvy and I don't hold that against him.  And fans on this board and elsewhere damned him for being inaccessible to the media...and then when he was, they damned him for what he had to say.

But hiring Elias, if that's the one thing he did right, that's enough for me to overlook anything else I've forgotten about him and haven't mentioned here.

This is the issue for me. He was fine when he kept out of the spotlight, let the rebuild proceed uninterrupted. I was even defending him for resource allocation last off-season if they didn't necessarily value the market that strongly. It seemed like (or I'd hoped) he'd learned from his Dad's issues to just let the product on the field represent you, and that by delegating entirely to Elias, he'd be a potentially decent passive Owner. Then there were rumors that he'd be selling as soon as his Dad passed; no reason to get worked up if he had a bad media exchange here or that as long as the team was improving and he'd be gone soon enough.

However, since they started winning, everything is unfortunately changing. It feels like he (almost desperately) needs the recognition for the state of the franchise more and more. He wants to assert himself into these media sessions, or the political scene with Moore, or this notion of revitalizing Baltimore by holding out for more money on the lease agreement. Little ego-driven dust-ups with young up and coming talent on the team just feels like the next step. He says he has no intention of selling now that they're winning. I just fear it's all going to his head and he's already acting out because of it. I really hope I'm wrong.

See, these are things I don't care about.

I don't care about his political leanings at all or what he does with the Governor.  I have no doubt in my mind that if JA's political leanings were a 180 from where they currently are, some people wouldn't have much of an issue with him...but since they are what they are, it makes him easier to dislike.  And I'm not talking about you in particular but there has been remarks made about him over the years and how he leans politically, as if that's of any kind of importance to stewarding the Orioles franchise.

I don't care if he wants to talk to the media or doesn't want to talk to the media.  I will say I don't think he's great with the media but if he wants to put his foot in his mouth every so often, that's fine.

In regards to having a dust-up with Kevin Brown, I don't believe we're getting the full story here.

His politics make him a lot easier to dislike but I didn’t like him or want him as the owner before I knew his politics.

I saw how screwed up him and his minions were when I worked for the Os 20+ years ago, so this is nothing new to me.

Sorry I didn't clarify this part very well. I could care less about these issues too (politics, media) in isolation.

My concern is they're indicative that he's on an escalating ego trip that'll eventually have him running off anyone who will easily offend him, just like his father. This could start as something lowkey like a play-by-play guy, but evolve into something more significant down the line like Elias, Hyde, or a prominent player.

I know we're all just like we were 20 years ago.
