I see no scenario where Mayo, Holliday or Basallo should be on the table.

They aren’t untouchable but players aren’t available that I would consider dealing them for.

Guys like Acuna, Carroll and Julio Rodriguez.

IE young elite talent signed for a contract that you have to want. Obviously those guys aren’t available.

The one potentially available player that I may consider moving Mayo or Basallo for is George Kirby.  I’m weary about the pitcher aspect of things because of the injury risk but he’s a guy I may consider.

I expect Mayo to be a better hitter than Mountcastle.  I see more power,  much better plate discipline and fewer extended cold streaks.  He may never match Mountcastle against Toronto, but otherwise I think he will outperform Mountcastle at the plate.

If Mayo's OBP skills translate, he will probably have more value as a RH hitter in Camden Yards.  Mayo also seems to be ahead of Mountcastle as far as where his power numbers were at age 21. If you can get something of value in a trade for Mountcastle, between now and next All Star break may be the time to pull the trigger as his OBP+ have been above average and he was trending up last season, especially after he returned from Vertigo; GG nomination helps the value too a bit.

So?  He was drafted for his plate discipline.  That was his carrying tool.  Also first round and same draft as Mountcastle.

Mountcastle has turned into a pretty successful pick that any GM would be pleased to have on their resume.

I think Mayo has much more upside than Mountcastle due to OBP and throwing arm. I agree Holiday ,Mayo and Basallo our pretty untouchable. I would think about digging into the untouchables for a Kirby or Gilbert.

Mayo definitely has more upside but the question is how soon does he become a better hitter than Mountcastle. Probably not next year.

Another vote for Mayo here.  But I do tend to think he's more a 2nd half option for us.

Is Mounty a trade deadline chip?  Or a guy with more market value in the off-season?  I think he's got more off-season market value.

No. It is knowable.
