So you throw our ERods injury season but don’t account for an injury for Stroman?  What sense does that make?

Admittingly Stroman has been held back the last few years by injuries but he has been pretty durable for most of his career, much more so than ERod.

And saying I love Stroman is just a dumb thing to say. The poll is asking of the 3, who would you sign. Ultimately, I’m not sure I sign any of these guys even though I do think Gray is a good target and would be ok with Stroman on a 2 year deal.

I have become more and more intrigued about Cease mainly because if the Os can fix him, i think he can be an actual difference maker in the playoffs. I don’t think any of these guys would be.

I looked for consistency in the innings pitched. Obviously you could get more or a lot less. So I’m fine saying you could get 150. Since he did 130 the last 2 years it seems like a pattern, no?

I only said you love him because you’ve been mentioning him for years. I’d take Gray if I could get Angelos to pony up the dough, which I believe is debatable.

I’m not willing to pay for a ransom for a guy that I have to fix. That skill should benefit the Orioles, not the White Sox. If they are reasonable I think a deal can get done. If they want to loot our top 10 forget it.

For a team like the Orioles who are 150M under the luxury tax threshold does it make a difference?

Angelos doesn’t have any interest in being anywhere near the threshold so it really doesn’t matter. He’d prefer to take that $20 million and have it disappear. The ability to do so runs out when Peter passes so the clock is ticking. The sale forces them to sell and the. He won’t have to worry about money. Ill believe a front ebbed deal when I see it.

What has John Angelos done that gives you any indication that he wants to over pay by 20 million in the first 2 years over him extracting it from the finances and putting it in the ownership groups pockets?

I wasn’t talking about the contract from an Orioles perspective.  I was talking about what I would do if I was Sonny Gray responding to the poster saying Gray might be looking for a short term contract.

Got ya …. But, I think the Orioles would prefer the money spread out. If I’m Gray I’d take your deal and retire after 2.

I know this is about the 3 FA pitchers, but it's also about extracting value of these guys to say which has the most value.

I see Cease's name also mentioned.  Why not try to align with the M's for one of their pitchers In a ready prospect for ready prospect deal.  Miller/Woo/Kirby/Gilbert/Hancock vs. Ortiz/Westburg/Cowser/Kjerstad/Mayo.  Make it work.  Then you don't have to worry about paying one of these guys, if we'll open the check book, you get the value back in the arb years and you don't have to worry about how you squeeze your prospects in playing time.

These three seem like the shopping aisle Mike Elias is probably shopping down.  Pick one and feel free to post your reasoning.

I voted for ERod, but I'd be satisfied with any of these signings.  I hope that MLBTR is right about these projections and I hope that you are right that this is Mike Elias' shopping aisle.  Any of these would easily qualify as a top-half of the rotation starter.

My fear is that Elias' cart inevitably veers into the bargain bin and we wind up with another Dean Kremer type.

Gray since I think he's the best pitcher of the group.  At this stage in the game, I don't care about losing a draft pick.

If the O's are going to continue to pinch pennies, that draft pick is really valuable, yes?
