Birds in Pairs

now

Recommended Posts

It's interesting how Oriole pitchers often stick together in pairs, in how I think of them, whether in terms of ranking, experience, or sheer whim. This continues to happen over time (think McNally and Cuellar, or Flanagan and McGregor). Here are my latest pairings, including some position players and former, so to speak, "brothers":

Bradish and Rodriguez - potential pair of aces
Means and Kremer - looking for more fan love
Wells and Hall - back on the rotation bubble
Povich and McDermott - cream rising to the top?
(2023) Bautista and Cano - double trouble on the backend
(2023) Perez and Krehbiel - rough diamonds
Cowser and Norby - where is the ceiling or floor?
Fabian and Beavers - ceiling/floor, part 2
Basallo and Mayo - the next really big things
Adley and Gunnar - the reigning young guns
Hays and Mountcastle - representing for the old regime
Urias and Mateo - hanging by a thread
Stowers and Ortiz - no room at the inn?
Akin and Zimmermann - still plowing on the farm
Bright and Baumler - fifth-rounders fermenting

In past eras of course more come to mind...
Eddie and Cal
Frank and Brooks
Roenicke and Lowenstein
Etchebarren and Hendricks
Palmeiro and Alomar
Berken and Bergeson
Arrieta and Matusz

No doubt I'm missing some other obvious ones...

Cowser/Kjerstad - who's here?

Norby/Ortiz - who's here 2.0?

Mounty/O'Hearn - 1B platoony toons

Gunnar/Jackson - franchise extension?

Cedric/EBJ - Does Cedric get to hand off CF in-game like Jones did for him?

Tavera/deLeon - next breakout in the international pipeline?

Liranzo/Sosa - next breakout in the international pipeline 2.0?

Good, the list needs some of the international guys.

All my friends love Means. I'd say he's one of the more popular Orioles, at least Oriole pitchers.

Maybe, but he doesn't seem to get much confidence around here as a frontline starter (at least, until he proves a full recovery).

Bumbry and Coggins.

Classic! That's a quintessential pairing. And it brings to mind another, on the same team: Grich and Baylor. Nearby ('72), the spot-starter duo, Doyle Alexander and Roric Harrison.

And what about...

Eddie Watt and Pete Richert
Stu Miller and Eddie Fisher
Tim Stoddard and Sammy Stewart

Watts and Richert.   That was one of mine!

Jackson and Reynolds.   That’s Grant and Bob in the 70’s.

Motton and May.   That’s Curt and Dave who were spare outfielders but when I think of one I think of the other.

I can't believe nobody as posted Lowenstein-Roenicke.

How about Palmer-Weaver, (the only ting Earl knew about pitching is that he couldn't hit it) or words to that effect

I did post the first pair in the OP.
Good pairing for Palmer... hard to put him with anyone else! The Odd Couple, for sure.
