Yea, I think we have to assume Bradish is done for the year.

I don’t see any reason to believe differently.

I think this is a bit of an over reaction.  Is there a chance this happens? Yes.  However, the GM stated this morning he expects him back this season.  I think we can wait and see how the throwing program goes over the next couple weeks before we call the season a wrap.

Means is unreliable and you can’t assume the best for Bradish.

So if you are looking to make a real move, you can’t just bring in some mediocre back end guy.

Get on the phone with the Marlins.

They knew all of this a month ago.

Trying to make a deal after make this stuff public knowledge isn't the smart play.

If I'm Elias then I'm looking to bring in Lorenzen ASAP.  Then working the phones for a trade or begging ownership for money to sign one of Snell/Montgomery.

Lorenzen sure, but standard Sigbot plug that stuff like this is why I believe it intrinsically tries to steer away from long years for Arms.

We'd have been doing cartwheels this winter had Bradish taken a ~$50M guarantee like Hunter Greene, but if this becomes TJ in the next 5 years he won't earn anywhere near that.

Bradish is 27.5, has a UCL tear and probably just a couple million gross in lifetime baseball earnings, before agents and the high Investing in Yourself overhead many elite athletes sensibly choose to make.

Yeah unfortunately spring training basically forces Elias to come clean with all this. I'm sure he would have liked to close a deal before now, but it is what it is.

Of course that’s what he said. Unless he was definitely going under the knife, I wouldn’t expect him to say anything different.

I believe they also said Tate would be coming back last year. And I predicted he wasn’t going to pitch in 2023.

His ligament is torn.

Maybe he becomes the really rare guy where rest and prp makes a difference but I see zero reason to actually believe that to be true.

Seriously, how much WOULD Montgomery cost? Our payroll is now about 90M, which is not nothing but still bottom tier. And new ownership, new and exciting possibilities, increased attendance, including lots of disgruntled folks from the dumpster fire in the Nats organization, and when has there been a Better time for a solid FA?

Its not like 3/55 for Ubaldo.

And it would be kind of nice to snipe a starter from Texas, who also needs SPs.

It happened when he started throwing in January.

Oh well.

An arm only has so many bullets in it before it needs TJ.  If he had it in January, it was gonna happen in camp.  They all break, it's just a matter of time.

Maybe 6/$150? Something around there? You'd love to get him for 5 though.

I wonder if Burnes was the move to replace/insure Bradish. Apparently the Bradish injury happened in January.

I think that if he thought a deal needed to be closed he would have pushed for it and it would be done by now.

It’s not like Elias is going to give up more because another team thinks he’s desperate.  Just absurd to think that.

I do agree that Lorenzen could be the play. Not what I would do but he can start and if by some miracle these 2 get back, you can put him in the pen.

He never made sense as the primary new starter but in a situation like this, he makes more sense.

I would rather get a guy like Lorenzen / Ryu on a one year deal.  Problem with Montgomery signing isn't just a question for our payroll this year its a question for the next several years when we need to be accounting for additional payroll to extend our young core stars.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s buzzkill news on the first day of camp.   Dear God!

It's the norm.   The team knows about offseason injuries but doesn't have to publicize them until reporters show up in camp and see who is not throwing and the injuries can't be hidden anymore.

Because I am lazy and haven't cleaned out my swollen e-mail box and assorted folders, I went back to the first day of camp last year and found an e-mail I sent to a co-worker upon hearing last year's first-day-of-camp injury dump.   It was revealed that day:

-- "Dillon tate suffered a flexor tendon/forearm strain in November and will likely not be able to pitch until May"
-- "Felix Bautiosta is on a rehab program for his knee and shoulder, will be late getting into games, hopes to be ready for Opening Day"
-- "DL Hall showed up and had right lower lumbar discomfort, which he said started 3 weeks ago, and is not throwing"
-- "Nick Vespi had sports hernia surgery in January and will not be ready at the start of camp"

It was a lot of fun hearing all of the national baseball talking heads call the Orioles a bonafide WS favorite after the Burnes trade, but losing Bradish for the year (and let's be real here, we absolutely are losing him for the year) takes us out of that conversation, IMO.

    • Mayo coming back from injury could have his debut in Baltimore delayed.
    • Wasn't a huge fan of his swing for that last out today but coming in to pinch hit with 2 outs isn't easy.
    • Interpreting Malike's comment that way is theoretically possible, but I didn't take it that way--didn't feel that shade was being thrown on me at all. But thanks for the concern.
    • People are being a bit ridiculous with the holier than thou takes criticizing a little humor. I am not saying what happened couldn’t cause a significant concussion, but it would be a bit of a fluke if it did. Mullins barely hit him with the bat and he had a helmet on. The fact that it was in the back of the head did make him more vulnerable, but this wasn’t the type of thing you see and think he was lucky to be alive.  Guys have probably hit their heads harder on the top of the dugout or on the fence making catches.  And note this comes from someone whose son has suffered severe concussions and who is well aware of the dangers associated with them. In short, people need to lighten up a bit on guys like Roy.  It was a little gallows humor.
    • Yeah, you read that wrong. LA2 is one of my favorite posters here and he knows it. No harm, no foul. If you aren't familiar with the game threads, it doesn't matter what the team is doing, people complain about it and people did make that same joke in the game thread long before Roy said it here. Game thread in summary - when the O's are not doing well, it's insufferable, when they are doing well, it's mildly less insufferable. There, that wasn't hard. I'd appreciate it if you didn't assume I'm throwing shade at people. I'll leave that up to you to do, you're really good at it.
    • Comp a. Like Gunnar, and beavers…
    • Wasn't Westburg a 2nd round draft pick?  It's a little early to judge last year's draft.
