If this is actually under federal investigation, as has been reported, then I expect the truth is going to come out regardless of MLB’s wishes.  What the truth is, is anyone’s guess at this point, so I’m not going to speculate about it.

I do not follow pro basketball except at a very superficial level, so I don’t know what happened in those cases.

Short version.

Tim Donaghy was caught, by the feds, for influencing games as a ref.  There was a pretty compelling amount of evidence indicating Scott Foster was working with him in this endeavor.

The NBA basically refused to work with the FBI.

Tim went to jail, Scott is still a ref to this day and the NBA ended up with close to 0 long term fallout.

Fun fact, a player very recently made the money hand symbol to Scott and got a 100K fine.

Well, it sounds like a lot of the story did come out.  Maybe not everything, but a lot more detail than we currently know about the Ohtani matter.

I legitimately didn’t know, thanks. I’ve never had any interest in the subject. Seems odd from the perspective of an outsider. But I guess there must be a reason. I don’t even buy scratch offs, gambling’s not my thing.

I think he'll be okay global marketing wise.    A byproduct of his mastery of the game of baseball I would guess is a lack of familiarity with California statutes.

That said, even if he is Al Capone, the Guggenheim partners are on his side to keep this good for everyone.
