Danny Coulombe 2024

What a magic act by Danny Coulombe yesterday, entering in the 10th with the bases loaded and escaping without allowing a run.   Pop up, ground out, strikeout, boom!

Overall, he’s looked even better than last year so far.  Four scoreless innings, one hit, no walks, five strikeouts.  The movement on his breaking stuff has been excellent and he’s locating all his pitches.

DC pitched an inning for the Tides last night. 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 BB, 1K

He can't arrive quickly enough.

77.5 mph line out (258 feet), strikeout, 96 mph double (11 degree launch angle, 193 feet), 79.9 mph soft fly out (206 feet).    Pretty good outing.

Coulombe's velocity is way down and he only got one whiff, so not sure if he's ready yet.

Maybe he could just use that knuckle curve the same way Britton used his sinker, or a traditional knuckle baller.

Half-joking, but Coloumbe's curve is pretty nasty.  He was never really a velocity guy, but 88 or 89 is a pretty big drop from 91-92

I think his first outing, he was only throwing 80%. I think another rehab outing where he goes all out should happen. Pitch him tonight. If he’s fine, get him up to pitch on Sunday if needs be.

According to Roch, Coulombe is back. Awaiting the corresponding roster move. My guess is Burch Smith.

Update: As expected, the corresponding move for Coulombe is Burch Smith, but he's going on the IL instead of being DFA'd. Right adductor/groin strain.
