You really are making calls on 20 some spring training PAs? Seems like a poor way to operate. This entire last man on the roster is just holding a place until Holliday can be brought up.

Are you joking at this point?  You just quoted his stats from AAA this year - that's 14 at bats.  I'm confused.  His career OPS in the majors is .667.  Again, I don't disagree on Kemp but using Maton as any kind of example is just strange.

Absolutely agree that whoever is there, its a placeholder for Holliday.  Clearly they felt Kemp brought something that Maton/Wong/etc doesn't bring.  What that is we may never know.
