Holliday called up!

I have to assume the plan at the end of spring training was to keep Holliday down longer, but after Urias and Kemp were not hitting, they felt the need was greater then they had anticipated.  I think they saw something in spring training that they liked in Kemp-kemp had a great spring; but whatever it was did not carry over and they pivoted to try to win ROY and give the team a boost.

They are just waiting until the home series to announce the extension.

I really do wonder if there is something to this.  I mentioned it earlier. Not saying it’s imminent but I wonder if talks are happening and this is a good faith gesture and they feel it’s going to get done.

That would make a lot of sense.

I had to look this up because I thought the 2nd place finisher also got their team some sort of pick, but according to this, the top 3 finishers get their team a pick? I didn’t think that was the case.

“A new system put in place now rewards teams with extra draft picks if they promote their top prospects on Opening Day. A player who receives a full year of service time and finishes in the top three in Rookie of the Year voting or top five in MVP/Cy Young voting will earn his team an extra draft pick coming after the first round.”

Wow, 3 draft picks would be hard to imagine, but 2 with Cowser and hopefully Holliday doing well is definitely possible.

I think when it was at that stage each team would only be eligible for one pick.

Kemp got a total of 10 PA. Sure they aren't judging anything on 2 games worth of at bats. I also can't help but feel like they would have called up Norby if it was just a reaction to Urias not hitting. Elias is the same guy who was so committed to his plan that he traded away Mancini and Lopez in the middle of a potential playoff run. Two years later and he's just flying by the seat of his pants with Jackson Holliday? It's so odd.
