The 2024 Trade Deadline

Recommended Posts

Rotation:

Burnes, Rodriguez, Eflin, Kremer, Rogers

Bullpen:

Kimbrel, Cano, Dominguez, Perez, Webb, Akin, Soto, Suarez

Smith optioned?

C- Adley

1B: Mountcastle

2B: Westburg

3B: Urias

SS: Henderson

LF: Cowser

CF: Mullins

RF: Santander

DH: O’Hearn

Bench: McCann, Jimenez, Vavra (or another IF), Slater/Pache/Kjerstad

Assuming that Kierstad gets sent down then? They need a backup CF’er and why would they get Jimenez and not keep him on the 26 man.

He does act like he's hyped up on something, but he did have a point.  I would take all of the O's trades other than the Eflin trade and put whatever the O's invested into the trades towards a top end reliever.  Seems like the O's have a 12 man bullpen now with no dominant reliever.  I'm hoping Coulombe comes back as good as ever.

Soto is no slouch. Lots of K's, FIP is 3.61 but he can get outs and we need swing and miss in the pen.

He’s not wrong in saying we needed a big arm in the BP though. We just can’t rely on Kimbrel.

Yeah, I think he was focused on the lack of back end BP. Agreed. Didn't rag on the batters. Probably was essentially just comparing to how NYY got Leiter Jr., etc.

So while the Padres are getting Tanner Scott and the Dodgers Jack Flaherty, and the Diamondbacks Puk, etc

the O's are busy again rummaging through the dumpster for reclamation projects to block the few prospects they haven't given away in bad trades

Maybe we make the playoffs, no chance we win anything

Wait until 2025/26/27....

I knew someone would downvote you for expressing displeasure with what we did.

But I can't begrudge any fan who is frustrated by these series of head scratching moves.

I don't like relying on always having to be the smartest guy in the room and preferring to always fix things instead of buying things that aren't broken. Their is a hubris in that kind of approach.

Something funny about you accusing someone else of hubris while using the wrong "there".

The Yankees will pay him.

I don't think so. The type of moves that Elias has been making won't fly in NY.

New York city and Yankees fans are many things. But patient is not one. They are not going to continue to be pacified with the line, "but just wait until next year".

I think that Elias believed this was a World Series contender at the start of the season. He may have been willing to make a big splash at the deadline with one of the top prospects. Then Bradish, Means and Wells all went down, then Coulombe.  Then Mateo. At that point I wonder if he came to believe that it was ok to just duct tape some roster holes to make the playoffs, hold on to all of the young talent, and go to battle in the offseason.

Just uninformed speculation on my part.
