Os vs NL

Today was, thankfully, the last games vs the NL this year…barring a WS run of course.

The Os finish 19-26 (that’s a sub 70 win% seasons) vs the NL and were outscored by 42 runs.

That means vs the AL the Os have outscored  them by about 115 runs and are 24 games over 500.

I do think it is an interesting bone to pick at if analytical preparation is tiered like ticket prices, and the guys just aren't as ready for "random NL pitcher" as they are for Chris Bassitt or Luis Gil.

We'll see in the coming years.     The 2024 National League champions will get the full treatment if we are that fortunate.

You can't pitch Corbin Burnes every day or tax too many brain cells with Hayden Birdsong.

Going into today NL was up 352-311 in Interleague play.  2977 - 2851 in runs.

Perhaps a partial explanation is that the NL is overall better this year. That said 3 games vs any team says very little.

Odd stat.

Yeah, I don't think the Orioles' struggles against NL teams is very meaningful, but I do think the NL is stronger this year.  All the NL division leaders have looked formidable and steady throughout the season.

But also the Padres and Mets have kicked their seasons into another gear and have really impressed over the past couple of months.  Compare them to the Wild Card teams in the AL, and they just appear more formidable on paper.   Also the DBacks are pretty much outhitting everyone right now -- though that's been offset by their not so effective pitching.

Friedman and Dombrowski set a high bar, and the Astros are post peak.    Atlanta probably doesn't want to hear much about the Orioles misfortune.

The Orioles level of play has been in the toilet half a season but I still think the good version of themselves is the AL's best positioned team to outplay the NL's best even this year.     We'll see if Soto and Judge are more than a 1-year thing, but even so that club has vulnerabilities.
