Arrieta-6-7-09

Looks like Arrieta is having another nice outing today. So far he has thrown 5 innings with 2 hits, 0 BB, 4 K and 0 ER. I love it that all of our hyped pitching prospects are actually backing it up with solid outings. It is crazy to think, we have promoted 3 starters this year and still have a lot to keep up with in the minors! Our system is finally stacked with good pitching.

Finished with the win and a complete game 7 inning shutout.

Allowed 3 hits, struck out 5, 0 walks, his ERA now stands at 2.59.

Why was it only 7 innings? Do they do this when they have double headers?

Yes minor league doubleheaders are 7 innings.

Minor League doubleheaders are only seven innings long. Every level from Rookie ball to Triple-A uses this format.

In his last 32.2 innings, Arrieta has allowed 21 hits, 7 er, 10 bb's, with 38 k's.

Yes, and that's a span of five games in which he has averaged 6.5 IP/start. Nice low BB rate, too. If he continues this through June it will be time to move him up.

I am thinking it is time for Patton and Arrieta to be moved up to AAA.

Put liz back in the pen.

Matusz gets the bump to AA.

bigbird is hearing that no moves will happen until after the minor league All-Star games, IIRC.

I really don't understand this, and they've been doing it for a while. It seems so arbitrary.

If the Orioles feel that right now, Arrieta, Patton and Matusz should all be moved up, then what does a few more weeks do?

They really want these guys to appear in these AS games i guess.

I'm not going to fault them too much because when their prospects have gotten to the majors this year they've actually looked ready. But I do think these guys are close to ready to move up, especially Patton and Matusz. Arrieta is getting there but I don't think a few more AA starts will hurt.
