JOHN Stockstill is not part of the problem. He is just part of the hopeful answer in the future. He is doing what he can under a fairly strict budget, but he has very little to do with the DR.

In terms of how the O's are organized, is the DR the same thing as Latin America, or just a subset of it?

The issue you alluded to, is that the same or different than why the O's are invisible in other places where ballplayers speak Spanish?

I definitely admit it was over-the-top. I'm also open to whatever explanation the Warehouse might have. But the bottom line is a pretty sad one when you scrape the blurb down it's basics:

1. There is a Dominican league that has been designed to make viewing young prospects as easy as possible for ML organizations

2. There has been a positive response from at least some ML teams to the league, including at least 7 signings of not insignificant size (but not "top tier")

3. BAL was one of two teams that jumped to mind as "not regularly present" when one of the leagues creators was asked about the reaction of ML organizations to the league

I'll absolutely grant that in the long run, the odds are that BAL isn't going to find a game-changing player in this league (which primarily showcases kids that are eligible and have not yet been signed). I guess my frustration is that this is a situation where someone is doing the heavy lifting in gathering talent in a tough-to-scout area heavily reliant on "who you know" and your reputation. It seems to be the easiest way imaginable to see a large collection of players.

I love to try and get a glimpse of amateur players here in the US. I don't have the resources to send people out with cameras to film HS games and send them to me, so I make use of large showcases that attract the best HS talent. It makes things so much, SO MUCH, easier -- I guess I jumped to the conclusion that the same would be true of this league in the DR.

Sorry if I riled people up for nothing; I tried to warn everyone with my "I'm not one for hyperbole" intro. Heck, I even tagged the thread something like "stotle loses it". :)

Don't apologize. You've got a strong attachment to your team and want them to do their jobs well. Your OP would have been inappropriate if the Orioles were any good, but it's the Os, Pitt and KC.

Given that JOHN is capitalized here, can we assume that DAVID may be the problem? He is/was the head of the DR deal according to this-

John Stockstill is in charge of international scouting, which to the Orioles apparently means everything but the Dominican Republic. Now maybe things have changed since last summer, but he had very little to do with the Dominican scouting.

Which all but confirms my previous post.;)

Stotle, I don't think you really need to apologize for anything dude. It's not like you rabble rouse on a constant basis. The article was legit, you brought up a legit concern and didn't read anything too far into it.

Hell, I don't think you've ever done any rabble rousing before.

That doesn't go on here? Does it?:scratchchinhmm:

Am I surprised?

Not in the least bit.

Take a look at this exclusive photo taken of the Orioles facility in the Dominican Republic.

<a href="http://s528.photobucket.com/albums/dd329/1blue4u/?action=view&current=Dominica-1stvisit006-1-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/dd329/1blue4u/Dominica-1stvisit006-1-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

 This is unacceptable. AM must have ADD, his head is totally not in the game.

Guest rochester

Stotle rabble-rousing? heck no. Your points are dead on.

There is no excuse for this...it's not like our payroll is so high that budget can not be spent on something as important as this. How can something so easy be so hard....it can get REAL tough being an O's fan...

Putting it all together. Thanks Tony.

Who hired David? John, AM or Angelos?

Let it never be said that I don't present both sides! Jon (Crawdad) just exchanged tweets with Jorge who had this to say:

@jorgearangure Are you surprised by the Orioles' lack of presence at the DPL games?

He tweeted back -

@CamdenDepot i wouldn't read too much into it. the league is barely getting started. they'll probably increase their presence at some point

It doesn't change anything for me as far as my concerns with BAL not being there, but I definitely wanted to pass this along. Thanks to Jon (Crawdad) for following-up with Jorge.

I feel you will never get the answer to that question publicly. If he is frustrated, he will quietly move on to a job inside baseball, most likely MLB headquarters and never say a negative word. That is AM style.

I have wondered about this since we sold Bradford, Gathright, and Guzman. None of these guys really matter but there seemed to be a budget that was being worked. You have gone on about resources for a year now, and I have always asked how you know what resources we have. I think it is a valid question especially when you read something like Stotle posted.
