Rangers put two Rule 5 guys on their roster

In 2002, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays carried three Rule 5 players on their roster all year long: infielder Felix Escalona, lefty Steven Kent, and righty Jorge Sosa. They went 55-106.

It's safe to say those Rule 5 picks did not work out for them. After that year, Sosa stuck around with the Rays for two more years, Escalona only played 10 more games with them, and Kent never pitched in the majors again.

Rule 5 picks are a really interesting concept. Keep 'em on the roster the whole entire year or risk losing them. When you're as bad as the Rays were back them, they probably kept some of those guys out of necessity since they didn't really have anyone else.

Pretty cool that the O's have gotten really good at finding useful players in the Rule 5 - Flaherty, McFarland, and it looks like Garcia.
