What if Reimold has a monster spring?

While it's way too early to call, Nolan Reimold is looking every bit as good as Brady Anderson advertised (homering again today). IF Reimold has a big spring, what are your thoughts as to AM's trade considerations (if any)? As well, how would you go about things?

Unfortunately I think the same thing happens that happened in 2009 when he had a monster spring. He has an option left so he will get sent down until an injury opens a roster spot for him. Its a shame he isn't better defensively.

I think it's a real possibility, especially if Fox is the backup C. Have a bench of Fox, Izzy, Pie and Reimold. I don't know if making a trade of Pie would be a good idea though. He's probably not worth much to other clubs, but to us he's our backup CF who has alot of talent

Trade Scott for prospects and make Reimold the full-time LF with Pie as the 4th OF.

I think its too early to tell. Someone will probably have an injury or another club might have one and open up a trading possibility.

I think that the bench waroriole suggests is possible, but not likely. I still think Reimold will be back at Norfolk even if he has a "big" spring. "Monster" spring? Then I could see him on the roster.

Who's to say there will be a market for Scott. I'd rather keep the depth and have Luke, especially since we have seen Pie and Reimold struggle recently.

Yeah, I think the bench is more likely to be Tatum, Fox, Izzy and Pie.

It's tricky because Fox is also looking very good this spring. I wonder if the O's would consider carrying 5 outfielders and letting Fox be the backup at both C and 1B.

But you know what? These things have a way of working themselves out. If Reimold is hitting well, one way or another he'll get 350+ PA in the majors this year, whether he's on the OD roster or not.

Fox can also play a little 3B, which will be good since we don't really have a backup there (unless you count Izzy and I don't). It seems like he won't play as much if he's the backup C.

I think Bell has a better chance of making the club with a good spring than Reimold does, since he can be your backup at the CIF spots.

I am going to say Reimold starts in Norfolk till there is an injury. He does has that option left. I wish they would try him in CF. He needs to cover more spots other then LF,DH and Bench.

I would like to see him on the roster for opening day though.

Thoughts on him playing some CF.

The Angels are apparently in the market for a left handed bat per Buster Olney's Twitter. Not sure if they'd want Luke though of course.

This team is put together to win this year. 'Trading Scott for prospects' is a ridiculous suggestion at this point and will not occur regardless of Reimold's Spring. However unlikely, trading Pie and carrying Reimold as #4 has some viability. If indeed Reimold has a 'monster' spring the most likely outcome is either Wariole's suggested bench or the more likely Norfolk/injury replacement.

    • Right..if the Orioles can trade for Brenton Doyle (my favorite top target), why should we care that his salary is low? Also in that scenario, Mullins is likely gone, so payroll would actually go down I believe. But someone like Bemore wins would still complain because the payroll isn’t where he thinks it should be.
    • From here https://www.mlb.com/orioles/stats/ops/regular-season
    • Where are you getting your stats from that's not correct looking at OPS.
    • On the O's this year, Martinez would have been: 5th in OPS 5th in AVG 6th in HRs in 120 games
    • I think PFF is grading Roquan badly because the safeties behind him are playing like ass and it's making him look bad.  If teams are going to attack him over the middle on crossing routes with WRs (like KC did with Rice) he doesn't really stand much of a chance if the safeties behind him don't throw him a bone.  He's still a huge help in the run game.   In general I think PFF assigns a little too much blame to linebackers on passes over the middle, so unless you're an elite coverage guy at LB it's really hard to grade well.  The flip side to this is that teams probably need to adjust their coverage areas to account for the fact that LBs aren't going to be able to hold down WRs for long.
    • Thanks. This tells me what my eyes have seen with Roquan. He's been a liability in coverage and the fact that Simpson is ahead of him is not good for our defensive leader. Do you have the PFF grades for offense too?
    • What you want is perfectly reasonable.  But you seem entirely to focused on money.  The team needs to work to improve.  I don't care what it costs, you shouldn't either.  They are going to spend money and payroll will be higher next year and the year after that.  We need them to make improvements and some of that is rightfully going to come from within and not cost much. The improvements that are needed are going to cost too, I'm not saying they wont.  But ownership and the GM should simply work in tandem to make sure the team has what it needs.  I am not really concerned about how much that costs because it should be able to be done without jumping this particular team into say top ten in payroll.
