What is it about retro uniforms?

Not only am I loving the new O's cap, especially the home hat with the white panel (just bought one myself), I love just about every retro uniform that exists. I even like the "they didn't even exist in 1979" Rays throwbacks.

Maybe it's because they remind me of my childhood. Anyone else love retro unis?

Yes, although some may argue the era was bit over the top, the seventies were a great time of creativity for baseball uniforms. Things became really boring and bland in the 90's-00's. The return of the cartoon bird, the Marlins new uniforms, and more teams using alternate colored jerseys has thankfully offset that trend recently.

Although the Rays fauxback uniform is a direct rip of the Padres old duds, from the fonts used on the jersey, right down to the bell shaped panel on front of the cap, they sill look cool, and it's an awesome idea.

I'd love to see the D-Backs, Rockies and maybe even the Marlins and Nats do their own 70's fauxbacks at some point.

Glad to see the Blue Jays go back to their old standards. They wore some truly awful stuff in recent years.

Some wouldn't be good today. I think the Padres couldn't wear their old duds these days. The Astros starburst was horrible but these could be cool. http://www.chrisoleary.com/Projects/Baseball/Pitching/Images/Examples/Example_ScapularLoading_Good_NolanRyan_001.jpg

Elastic waistbands are always awful, though.

I'm the same way. There's a place in Philly (Mitchell & Ness) that has a lot of retro shirts, hats, jerseys etc. I've got a few different teams, with my favorite being the Brewers old logo with the ball and glove.

    • I've been to 3 games this year.  I live inside the DC Beltway and quite a few of my son's friends and their families have gone as well.  That's definitely a first - can't ever remember family friends down here making treks up to Camden since the Nats started to play well ~2012.
    • First off he doesn't know.  It might look like two weeks now and he has a setback. Also, seven weeks counts as weeks not months.  😉 I'm guessing the ASB.
    • Elias did say "weeks, not months" to Brian Kenny on MLB Network a few days back on a direct question about length of absence.     But it still may have been a bull sling. I'm hoping Adam Frazier's veteranosity has been duly honored by a couple games and we get leadoff Gunnar, at least against RHP.    I'm not very confident in anyone, but I have some hope Gunnar could actually do something against Logan Webb.
    • Reading the tea leaves, I don't think he likes Haskin or Pinto much either.  Rom got moved to Bowie after 67 strong innings in Aberdeen at age 21. Pinto is still in Aberdeen at age 22 after 134 strong innings. IIRC, Haskin didn't receive a ML ST invite despite a good statline last year at Bowie. Haskin and Handley need to get healthy and rake to get added. Pinto needs 50+ IP with a sub 4 FIP at Bowie to get added.
    • Yep, the Giants were 11-17 on May 1, since then they have reversed that and gone 17-11.   And as noted, we get their top 3 starters.  So although we are playing a .500 team, they have been playing like a .600 team for a month, and we are getting their best pitchers. On the bright side, they are 18-22 vs RH starters, and 10-6 vs LH starters, and they'll get nothin' but righties from us.
    • How does other people having good seasons excuse the poor call they’re making on keeping Mateo and Mountcastle in the lineup every day?
    • OMG if looks could kill.  Talk about adding insult to injury....."Grayson, you're demoted"......"Grayson, hold this please" In all seriousness it will be interested to see how he handles next few starts.  I hope he pitches like a man on a mission and realizes what gave him success at AAA isn't going to cut it in MLB and he starts to refine his game even more.  Biggest tests come after the player has been knocked on his back side and to see how he gets back up.
