Lew Ford, 2013

Mark Viviano said on Wall to Wall today that he see a scenario where Lew Ford makes the team, particularly if Nick isn't ready. He seemed to imply Nick may not be ready for a bit.

I definitely think Nick starts on the DL and they start with McLouth, Jones, Reimold, Ford (even if he is a jerk). I also see Ford starting in right and Nolan DH-ing against Price in the first game.

I'd rather have a 100% Nick from May onward than a 75ish% Nick from the beginning of April onward, if that's what it takes.

Who plays RF in Game 2 vs Hellickson?

Role player, specialist, clubhouse guy is one thing. My "small" point is simple... if Lew Ford is playing A LOT, the organization has a dearth of TALENT. 200 Plate Appearances would be a TON for him.

It depends on the situation. If Buck is putting him in a position to succeed with those PA's (Platoon matchups, career stats vs pitcher), and Buck sees that his physical tools are solid (decent bat speed, defense), then I have no problem with this. The O's are trying to squeeze a little more productivity out of this late point in Lew's career, most teams do something along those lines. Look at Darryl Strawberry: from 1992 on, his overall production was right around replacement. Joe Torre, however, saw something and brought him on for the 1998 year. They took a washed up Darryl Strawberry and got 25 HRS and nearly a 900 OPS in 345 PAs. Torre saw that the tools had not deteriorated completely, and put him in a position to succeed.

I could very well see Buck do the same thing with Lew Ford.

I have a hard time believing the Orioles would take Ford north ahead of Jackson or Pearce. I think Jackson gets the starts in right if Markakis is not available, and Pearce becomes the RH DH. If Markakis is good to go, Jackson is the RH DH. Ford is depth at AAA.

Actually, the Yankees acquired Strawberry in 1995 when Showalter was their manager. He re-signed with them in July of 1996 when Torre was the manager, where he helped them win the pennant, and eventually the World Series (in that year's A.L.C.S. against the Orioles, Strawberry hit 3 home runs, and batted .417.) And while he had an excellent regular season in 1998, he didn't play at all in the post-season that year, due to colon cancer. After the 1995 acquisition and the 1996 re-signing of him, he stayed with them for an additional 3 years (1997-1999.)

Lew had a single with 3 RBI's today, but his batting average slipped down to .483.

Even though he scored a run today, Ford went 0-for-4, and his batting average dropped down to .389.

Lew is a AAA-Tide.

Considering how deep we are BOTH on the mound AND in position players, that's nothing to sneeze at.

Let's go, Lew.

INJUSTICE!! As a good company man he will accept this graciously. Seeing Buck on Thurs before 7pm game vs Rays, thanks to O's fan from Boston. (Thanks Jim). Plan to bring up Lew (who fixes teammates' computers) and Steve J. opening in Balt.

Really need Lew to fix my laptop, as some drunk (may have been me, I don't remember) spilled a white Russian in/on it. Just don't make these things durable.... Would never happen to a typewriter.

Pricing Notebooks, now - had one last year from Best Buy after leaving old laptop one on top of car :) (Think Lew and his wallet) leaving Hooters. Like 9hr battery life and easy to carry. (Returned it when it froze up and I got home to Balt.)
