Roch contradicts OH report

In a span of about five minutes, I've been buried by e-mails - including one from Baseball America - and phone calls checking to see if the Brian Roberts deal to the Cubs is official.

A team spokesman said he just contacted president Andy MacPhail, who insisted that the rumor is "very inaccurate." The Sun's Dan Connolly just spoke to MacPhail, who said nothing has changed since last night.

I'll keep you posted, of course, if anything develops.

I HOPE THIS IS TRUE!

The deal hasn't been approved by the commissioner's office so of course it's not official yet. It's just complete. Nothing's changed of last night because it hasn't been approved yet. People have to read between the lines on this one...

The deal was probably completed last night, so this means nothing.

Is that confirmed?

By all our sources here and Tony as well. It's at the MLB offices meaning it's done but it doesn't become official until MLB approves it. Roch and MacPhail probably can't confirm anything until it's official. That's the beauty of the Hangout...

I like the "very inaccurate" part. I think that sounds like a deal is on the way, but the players involved are not what has been represented. I hope so, because i hate the reported trade.

I agree that the deal is done, because I don't believe Tony would put it on the front page otherwise. However, I still thought it was worth posting what Roch had to say.

I have no problem with saying it's not complete. I'm sure the medical stuff has not been finalized and it hasn't been approved by MLB yet, so it's not a done deal officially. I would not expect the front office to confirm something that is not final.

It is the "very inaccurate" part that I find interesting. If the deal was who we have been talking about and it was just the stuff you describe needing to be done, I would have expected a more tempered quote.

I tend to think that if in fact there is a deal one of the rumored players is wrong, hence the "very inaccrate".

Seems to me that AM and the O's are treading lightly on the topic of moving Brob, since he has been the face of the franchise for about 3 years now. And is far and away the biggest fan favorite. I'm sure they will wait until the deal is totally complete and all of the medical red tape is cleared up. Unlike when dealing Tejada, a guy that most fans wanted out of here anyway, they had no problem confirming the deal.

My last contact was the deal was still with PA.
