Report: Jones Damaged Goods?

So do you really think that noone is questioning MacPhail's knowledge on the extent of Tejada's involvement with steroids and the possibility of his name coming up in the Mitchell Report? Come on... it's a cut throat business- and you damn well know any advantage an owner or GM can get- he'll take.

Everyone already knew that Tejada could potentially have been involved in the whole steroid scandal before the report came out so MacPhail wasn't "hiding" anything.... Also, just because a player is in this report doesn't hurt their present or future value.

My point was that Bavasi wouldn't have hidden something so significant that wasn't already public knowledge... It would have been suicide...

We assume that the M's even recognize that he has this condition. Perhaps they haven't seen it. Perhaps the O's docs are more in tune as to what to look for or just plain see something that the M's haven't seen before.

But the O's docs haven't examined him... How could they make such a significant diagnoses based on written info or diaganostic images that Seattle's doctors had access to? It just doesn't make sense...

Maybe through medical imaging that looked similar to the of Belle's from a few years ago?

Who knows.

Let's not forget that Angelos openly admitted to blocking the Bonilla and Wells trades in 96, and the Roberst trade last year. If he blocked this, why wouldn't he just say so?

Keep in mind he admitted to the Roberts thing during a general interview about a month after it occured.

What did Belky say?

Belkast said that there are no injuries, only that some paperwork was holding it up. Said everything is back on track. If there are no injuries, then this thread is meanigless.

I didn't mean to throw you off by referring to Belkast as Belky. My bad! ;)

Sounds like you're choosing to believe who you want to believe. It's kind of unfair to believe the guy whose statements make you the most happy. Nobody has any idea what is really going on.

Thanks for clarifying as I had the same question and also wasn't sure if "Belky" was a different poster than Belkast.

Call me Skeptical that this is the reason why the trade hasn't gone through. Where was the hesitancy when they were drafting injury issue after injury issue or signing Baez or Benson or Wright or Belle or ...

This stuff happens in baseball. Bottom line is that Angelos is senile.

I'll call you Skeptical because that's your handle.

I started my post by saying..."If you are to believe Belky, which I do..."

I think that made it pretty clear that a) It was Belkast's opinion based on what he's heard, and 2) That I CHOSE to believe Belkast. I was not hiding anything or trying to deceive anyone into thinking Belkast has the "right" rumor and peace is "wrong."

I would love to know when they knew about this.

Something just doesn't add up.

If they have known about it for a while, why did they target Jones to begin with?

If they just found out about it, how do they know about it without getting a physical?

Uh, maybe by just reading the med-records that the M's faxed or fed-ex'd over? What about that is so hard to believe?

    • So I looked up the rule book and I can't find anything that says this is the case. Maybe I'm missing it because the rules for unearned runs can be convuluted to say the least. "For purposes of calculating earned runs under Rule 9.16, the runner who begins an inning on second base pursuant to this rule shall be deemed to be a runner who has reached second base because of a fielding error, but no error shall be charged to the opposing team or to any player. For purposes of Rule 9.02, the Official Scorer shall keep records of the number of times each batter and runner is placed at second base in accordance with this rule." In the rulebook under unearned runs it states, "An earned run is a run for which a pitcher is held accountable. In determining earned runs, the Official Scorer shall reconstruct the inning without the errors (which exclude catcher’s interference) and passed balls, giving the benefit of the doubt always to the pitcher in determining which bases would have been reached by runners had there been errorless play. For the purpose of determining earned runs, an intentional base on balls, regardless of the circumstances, shall be construed in exactly the same manner as any other base on balls. (a)  The Official Scorer shall charge an earned run against a pitcher every time a runner reaches home base by the aid of safe hits, sacrifice bunts, a sacrifice fly, stolen bases, putouts, fielder’s choices, bases on balls, hit batters, balks or wild pitches (including a wild pitch on third strike that permits a batter to reach first base) before fielding chances have been offered to put out the offensive team. For the purpose of this rule, a defensive interference penalty shall be construed as a fielding chance. A wild pitch is solely the pitcher’s fault and shall contribute to an earned run just as a base on balls or a balk." I don't see where it states a batter that reaches on a fielder's choice due to a runner being being on due to error.
    • Joe Posnanski wrote a wonderful book, called “The Baseball 100,” his 100 greatest players. It’s full of wonderful quotes, but it leaves out a quote that is not just all of Baseball in three words, but that applies to all of life. ”Sometimes you suck.” Adam Jones. God bless Adam Jones. Yes, Hyde makes boneheaded decisions almost every game. Yes Mike should have done this or not done that, Yes Cowser shouldn’t have thrown that way, Ryan shouldn’t have missed the fly, yada yada. I was screaming as loud as anyone. My wife said,”I thought you liked baseball,” But now it’s tomorrow.  “Sometimes you suck.” Charge on.
    • Game 4 of Yankees series. It’s one game, but one game could be the difference in the division, having to play in the WC series, and home field advantage.  Things to consider…  How did games 1-3 go versus the NYY?  Should we ease Bradish back in a lower pressure spot so he’s not too amped up for his own good? Do we play matchups and go with a LH SP in OPACY? What happens in Irvin’s start today?
    • 9/9, 17, all Orioles.  I had 3 in common with Spy Fox's similar all Oriole grid.
    • Ugh…brown has negative hEAR
    • Since this thread has got more life than I thought it should, I'll add my two cents rather than just a quip. Last night pissed me off but then most losses do. I turned the game off when the A's tied the score in the top of the ninth. Figured that was the ball game. That it took another inning to lose surprised me. 16-9 in March/April with 4 to go and this much angst? Going to be a long year on OH. 😀 My approch is if the players making all that money can compartmentalize, darn it so can I. I sure have never had their physical talents so....  Got up this morning - sun shining - I'm still here - family is still here - play ball. IMHO, the only games worth really fretting over are family and health.
