But has had some really lackluster years in the AL East.

This argument doesn't hold any weight with me. Is there any reason to think that an individual would hit worse in the AL East? Or could it be that Snider reached the Majors when he was really young and accrued his AL East at-bats in his age 20-23 seasons and performed better in a different division as he hit his prime? I just don't think there is that big of a difference hitting in different leagues.

Babe Ruth was a terrible hitter in the National League, but he was also nowhere near his prime when he played in the NL.

His OBP would have been third best on the team last season, just a tick below Markakis. More pop.

I know, I know... I guess if you are looking for Markakis type replacement I can swallow it. But do we really think it will involve a Birdwell or Kline type player? Those guys have some decent promise IMO. Get that second half guy and it would be well worth it. But get the guy who lingered around .220 BA and I wouldnt be luke warm on it. But need to take chances and I guess this is the one to take maybe.

Excellent. What a great deal if we can pull it off.
Don't you want to know who the minor leaguers are?

I certainly do. Just because they're not on the 40-man doesn't mean they aren't good prospects. For example, Hunter Harvey's not on the 40-man, nor is Chance Sisco. I doubt either of them is going anywhere, but there are others I'd be reluctant to lose.

That said, when Snider was 21-22 I thought he'd be an absolute stud. He had something of a bounce-back year last year, so maybe he could do something positive.

And this would hold even less weight with me talking about leagues in the early century versus now... National league was historically better than the American league BTW in the early 20th century.

Exactly! 4/44M verses 1/2.1M with one arbitration year next year.

You guys crack me up. Snider has never had more than 359 PA in a season, and he's been worth 4.2 rWAR over his entire career. He has some upside, but he's a role player, nothing more.

I would have been very happy about a Matusz/Snider swap. Too bad they got Bastardo. I'm looking forward to seeing who the minor leaguers are.

Brault has put up some decent numbers... gives up a homer once every 36 innings strikes me the most.

Would rather give up Bridwell or Kline. I like Brault. Still, Brault is considered a below average velocity guy who is back end rotation type. Bridwell and Kline are scout's guys but underachievers. Brault is the pitchability overachiver type.

I like Brault, but he wouldn't be that high a price to pay, depending on who the second guy is.

These are the kind of moves we have seen Dan build a team with. With the occasional February leftover. This guy is not Nick Markakis in his prime.
