Not too sure on that, with Pearce able to play at 2nd, now.

Roch had mentioned more than once in the past 10 days, that Cabrera as an option to move out, to make roster space.

Cabrera is here as injury insurance for Hardy and Flaherty. Pearce can't play SS.

If accepts assignment to AAA, would still be insurance.

If not, then let Janish be the insurance, better glove.

If this is so why is he here now? They could have just dumped him for Flaherty and avoided DFAing De Aza for the time being.

There was no point, in keeping De Aza.

Flaherty is not getting dumped for anybody.

I dont look for Cabrera to be around too long, sorry, just IMO.

Parmalee is hitting the cover off the ball, and I suspect they will move a body to get him on the roster.

By my math, he has 1 option left. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Does anyone have a reliable site that specifically says how many options a player has?

I normally just use this site, and look for how many times a player has been optioned since being added to a 40 man:

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/al-east/baltimore-orioles/

The most reliable thing is here posted in the sticky section. The 40 man roster. But Cabral isn't on. He might have two options left. I think I looked it up in my pitching post.

Cabral, Rowen, and McCoy have 2 left each

As I said Cabrera is here until Schoop returns. I said nothing about dumping Flaherty. The point in keeping De Aza was to avoid eating his salary and have more time to work a trade. If Hardy has back spasm it is a day to day thin and keeping Cabrera avoids further roster manipulation. Also it looks like Cabrera will be platooned with Flaherty at 2B.

Looks like Cadral has three options left. When optioned in the past he has never spent 20 day in the minors before being outrighted.

But I don't think he is the right pitcher for the O's at this point. He is not a long reliever.

My guess is that Chris Jones is recalled unless there is someone to go on the DL. Then it would be McFarland.

The answer is .... NOBODY!

@masnroch said same 7 in the pen listed for today.

Called it. Didn't see a need to add anyone today.

If it is a blowout just ride Matusz' arm until it falls off and then DL him until September. Or ride him and have him drop the appeal.

    • I think at this point its just semantics regarding what a successful deadline looked like.  Elias upgraded three positions - SP, 2 RP.  Could there have been bigger upgrades?  Sure, at a bigger cost.  I think it was sufficient.  What has killed the team is the hitting.  If this team had hit like its capable of, and Soto, Eflin, and Dominguez all pitched exactly as they have, we'd all be feeling a lot better about the team, and probably lauding Elias for those three pickups and what a great boost they were at the deadline.  But we aren't hitting - at all - and I don't know what he could have done at the deadline to fix that. Already agreed that the draft strategy must evolve. I don't agree it was a bad strategy to do what they did so far, but it does have to evolve, just as the organization as a whole has evolved.  And I think it will.
    • I don't mean this as any kind of personal slight toward you. Please do not take this as such. But people/fans showed how they felt about this team who has been a loser for almost 4 months. And largely continued to hedge (beyond the Eflin addition) at the deadline. I bet you who did not have a bunch of empty seats for their playoff game yesterday .... San Diego. IMO it is because of the effort that they put in to continue to engage the fanbase. You can't sell people on the "homegrown" stars idea and no need to add a lot of outside talent. And then some of those "homegrown stars" who were so hyped flop. And then not extend the ones who turn into stars. That communicates a lack of investment by the org. Now when you add that up in the economy/2024 inflation and combine that with all of the other entertainment choices that people have in 2024; things like this will happen. Empty seats during a playoff game = an unengaged/unexcited fan base. The org has to own much of this.
    • I’m getting Gunnar as many PA’s as possible.    Gunnar Westburg O’Hearn Santander Mullins Mountcastle Rutschman Cowser Urias
    • I agree with the idea of stacking lefties in the lineup but O'Hearn scares me at 1st.  One misplay on a ball in the dirt and that may be the game.   I am one also that wouldn't mind seeing Holiday in the lineup as the DH.  We need people to get on base and he started tapping into that ability at the end of the season.
    • Without looking, I bet your holiday was worse
    • Mullins should absolutely Lead Off Today. Keep westburg 2nd then Gunnar, Tony, O'hearn, Adley, Cowser, Kjerstad, Holliday. Try to jump these guys early.
