Walter Young played briefly for the Orioles in 2005, hitting 1 home run in 37 plate appearances.

That same season, Young hit 13 HR's and had 81 RBI's in 123 games for AAA-Ottawa (the Orioles' AAA affiliate at the time.)

At 6'5" and 320 pounds, Young was one of the largest players in this history of professional baseball.

Young was 35 years-old.

I never understood why nobody gave him much of a chance at the Major League level. He had an .803 OPS in 37 plate appearances and he didn't make any errors in 54 innings. The sample size was small but he performed well. I'm guessing it was because of how big he was but that seems like a dumb reason because he put up good numbers. Anyway, it's sad to hear that he passed away.

Poor defense. Adam Jones' plate discipline.

The later Walter Young was born on thuis day in 1980.
