It's obviously still early, but it looks like both Brian Matusz and Jimmy Paredes may begin the season on the D.L.

Assuming no one else gets signed (or injured) before Opening Day, I'd predict a bench of Joseph, Flaherty, Janish and Rickard (though I'd much rather sign Pedro Alvarez and move Reimold to the bench to replace Janish).

Matusz's injury increases the likelihood that McFarland could make the roster on Opening Day. He would join Britton as the second lefty with Brach, Givens, O'Day, Bundy and either Roe or Worley throwing from the right side.

I really don't see any possibility of us not signing or trading for an additional OF'er before ST ends. And I really don't think it's gonna be Pedro.

Try them where? Let them both go down and get some work in the minors. Let them get extended for depth purposes. We have enough arms ahead of them that could be put in the bullpen.

In his first outing since returning from his injury, Matusz went 3-up, 3-down against the D-Rays.

He had an ERA under 3 a couple years ago. Made some delivery tweaks in the offseason apparently.

Career WHIP of 1.520. Lackluster K/9, no lefty/righty splits and allows a ton of hits. What's to like?
