I was at Grimes outing yesterday and I agree. He has nothing left to prove at this level. His command was excellent throughout his outing.

Two seam fastball was 89-90 MPH. Four seam sat 91-92 MPH, occasionally bumping 93-94 MPH. He mixes in a 12-6 curveball that clocks in the mid 70's, a low 80's changeup and an occasional 82-84 MPH slider.

His 6'5", 185 pound build and pitching delivery mirror that of Chris Tillman. Not that I'm comparing the two but his delivery is very similar to Tillman's and like Tillman I think his fastball plays up a little due to the downward plane he gets from his overhand release. His offspeed pitches didn't wow me but he generally threw strikes with them and snapped off a couple curveballs for strikeouts that I would grade as major league average.

He's another guy like John Means that impresses me with his feel for mixing pitches and throwing them consistently for strikes. Also, like Means, I'm not sure how his stuff will play at higher levels but I think it's time to find out.

Here's the Bowie rotation right now:

Lee (23) 5-0, 2.98. He's on the DL with a lat strain.

Hess (22) 2-4, 3.35.

Aquino (23) 3-4, 3.42

Bridwell (24) 1-1, 5.13

Garcia (23) 1-6, 5.33

Means (23) 0-2, 5.56

I think we've seen enough of Bridwell as a starter. He's 24, has been in our organization for 7 years with a 4.85 career ERA. He probably has better raw stuff than Grimes, but he's never been able to be consistent. At this point I'd rather see what Grimes can do. I think Garcia is largely in the same boat as Bridwell, but he's a year younger and I'd be a bit more patient with him even though I think his future is probably in the bullpen as well.

Need to add Brandon Barker to that list.
