I think I agree about the definition of quality start.

6 innings and 3 or less runs. Ill take that every day.

I ultimately changed it based on a pretty detailed on-air conversation between Thorne and Palmer on the topic and Palmer basically saying a 4.50 ERA (6 IP, 3ER) isn't good enough for a pitcher. I had considered redefining

it before, but just never did it. That conversation was what convinced me to actually do it.

Thank you. :) I missed that. Makes sense to me. The traditional quality start definition is kind of meaningless....

Is 9 IP, 4 ER not a "quality" start? The amount of bullpen work you save by doing that is extremely meaningful in the long term war of attrition of the season. Provided that going 9 doesn't make you throw out your arm and go on the DL...

How about 5.2 IP, 0 ER? Also nice, and many of us would take that any day of the week, too.

Good points. It wasn't something I thought all that in-depth about and just put a basic definition based on six innings being the minimum. I'd love to refine it even further if people are serious about it.
